Great news. Agree about being sure to keep Timmy fresh by playing whoever the backup is every once in a while.

I have to give DA credit, and the point was echoed by Fluto the other day: This club requires great goaltending, not merely good or adequate goaltending, to succeed. I don't think we can expect that from the young guys, and I'm not sure we can expect it from Tim this year, either.

Hope they prove me wrong.

Could have been worse. I was thinking groin tear when it happened. Even a strain is a bad injury for a goalie, but thank god he doesn't have to have surgery.

The thing about the action that caused his injury - he was in a move to the left and it looked like his skate caught a rut, but not like his knee twisted - the awkwardness looked higher than that - he was caught with his weight balanced badly and when he fell again the knee did not seem twisted.
I had a suspicion about this. Shoulda gone to med school on a video scholarship.

Glad it is not a serious tear. It also might not be one of the muscles a goalie's legs depend on, and that might be good.

But one reason the healing takes so long is this - it hurts to even breathe (assuming this is the injury - sounds like it, but I'm no Dr. Welby):

Treatment for Groin Puabdominal Strain:
The treatment of strains in the muscle is a difficult task owing to two reasons. Splints cannot be applied on them and these muscles cannot be rested owing to their relentless role in the normal functioning of the body.

Or if he re-injured his left knee. That would have been the worst case scenario I think.

Thank God it's just a strain...sucks that he's out 4-6 weeks but at least it's not something that should be a major concern in the future *Knock on wood*

Get well Tuukka!

I agree TT has to be better than he has been but I did not expect a repeat of last year's goaltending heroics from TT. I don't think any goalie could duplicate that level of play two years in a row.

The question to me is what exactly happened to cause that, former goalies in the house?

haha no problem--

you're right, but no I was just referencing the fact that it seemed like they said they'd have something for us every single day ... and then didn't.

My take? From the looks of it, Tuuka had to change direction very suddenly to adjust for the fact that the puck was deflected, and as a result, his left adductor muscles (which is to say, the muscles on the inside of the leg) had to do an about face and go from shortening to lenghtening. Sometimes an unexpected change in direction can happen too quickly for some of the muscles involved to adjust, and some muscle fibers end up being torn as a result of stretching too much, too quickly.

I don't think we see him in action again this year cause the playoffs are a month away and he will need minimum 4 weeks. Hopefully i'm wrong

Why 4-6 weeks?

Rask out 4-6 weeks with a groin/lower abdominal strain, yet Tampa's Garon tears his groin and is listed at 3-4 weeks? Maybe Tuukka will be back sooner rather than later?
