Deadline Busy, and Expensive, for Wings
The past 48 hours have been busy for the Wings that included three completed trades.
The first trade was with New Jersey in which Brett Festerling and Detroit's 3rd rounder were given for Pavel Kubina. While Kubina is likely set to explore free agency this summer the Wings hope he can help contribute and get the team in the play-offs.
The second trade was the biggest and will impact the future as much as the present. Hopefully fr the better given the gamble. Going to Montreal is Detroit's first rounder, NHL calder candidate Adam Henrique, and Blair Betts for Derek Stepan. Stepan's versatility and offensive upside were the primary reasons the Wings made this unusually bold mode.
The final trade made just minutes before the deadline was again with New Jersey and again for a rental. Going to the Devils is the OTT 3rd rounder for Scottie Upshall. If certain conditions are met the 3rd could become a 2nd.
Only time will tell if the trades will help or hurt the team long term.
