Well, I have no idea what in the hell you are talking about, but here is my question.

A Long time ago, I used to be stationed in Quantico, VA and We used to frequent a club called "Tiki Fala"...if i remember it is in Triangle.

There used to be a local band who played there called "Sinister Grin".

Keep in mind, this was in the early 90's....does it ring a bell?

i did it as a civic duty, as a resident of northern va, that and my friends band was playing there.

for better, or worse, depending on how you look at it, his band stunk so the only people there were friends and family, and this guy.....

we passed a longhaired, shirtless ( and most likely toothless ) 'neck looking individual walking down rt 1 about a mile or so from that joint. we hollered and laughed, said he MUST going to the fala.

about 20 minutes after we get there in strolls shirtless, only now he has donned a button down shirt. of course said shirt was unbuttoned, and as such bearing his mosquito loving chest.

Anyways, Back to the point...The Band, Sinister Grin.

They were about ready to release a new disk waay back in the day, and I was looking for demos and/or copies.

Band members were...

Tim Holley ~Vocals He was in the navy i believe
Mark Davis ~ Bass
Tom Muck ~ Guitars
Paul Gonzales ~ Guitars
Rob San Pietro ~ Drums.

I knew they never became mainstream, but i remember going to Tiki Fala often to see them play.

Is that joint still standing ?

The joint did smell, and we wont talk about the food, but it was a fun place for beer and music.

So you were in Skeleton? Hmmm... I must know you then. lol

Dean... Tiki Fala is now gone. Not sure what's there now. I used to manage a couple bands back then and was at Tiki many more times than I'd like to admit. I remember Sinister Grin on the bill for a couple shows we played around the area, but didn't know them very well. They might have put out something self-produced, but nothing on a label. Good luck in your quest!

Silence, yeah, that's what I meant. Not sure why I said Skeleton. I actually didn't really know those guys. So from the Silence alumns I'm pretty sure there's only two of you that were big hockey fans (and if I recall you both played in HNA). The defining question is did you play in a band with Phoebus?

If this is Sinister Grin's singer...His name was Tim Holley.

He was in the Navy, but would sing with them often. A great local band, to bad they never became global.

Still Looking.

Sinister Grin

Norman Voss was the lead singer (at least for the last couple of years they were together). He is now a wedding singer. Robbie (the drummer) is now the drummer of Hot Buttered Elvis, still playing most every weekend. After Sinister Grin, Norman (lead singer) joined his brother Oliver and they formed the Stormin Normin Fiasco. Oliver now sings for Another Fiasco. I am sure that if you get in touch with Hot Buttered Elvis or Another Fiasco (both on myspace), they'll know if there exists any CD from Sinister Grin.

I live about 3 miles from there. Is the place still standing? Yes but has gone through 2 r 3 name changes and management changes in the 4 or 5 years. I drive by it at least 2 or 3 times a week and couldn't even tell you right now the name of the joint. At one point it a salvadorean restaurant, a TJ Grit, a breakfast joint and I think currently a sport bar. It's still a run down piece of garbage and haven't been there since it was known as Tiki Fala. I had a friend (Jody Fetterer) who played drums in the band "Twisted Tree" and would go to watch the play occasionally. Don't think they do live entertainment anymore.

Tiki Fala and Cracked Actor

I loved reading everyone's comment on Tiki Fala. And how I did. I was one of the long time Waitress's/Bartender's there. Mid 80's to early 90's. New James and Joann well. That place might have stunk and might have been a dive. But I made great money there. And most of the time. It was packed.
I stumbled on this site actually looking for where Cracked Actor the band might or might not be.

It's an old thread, but I can get copies of Sinister Grin music if you still want it. We made 3 self-produced tapes -- 2 with Tim Holley and one with Norman Voss. I was one of the guitar players. We used to love playing Tiki Fala. It was a dive, but there were always a lot of people and it was always a good time. Contact details below:
