People need not to worry. Perry and Getzlaf's developments were certainly not hindered by Carlyle's methods for younger players. Kadri and Frattin are fine.

Forgot about Carlyle being the coach of those 2 when they were young. Good point.

There very many coaches I'd trust with youngsters in this situation, but Carlyle is definitely one of them. I think the same can be said for Reimer. Hiller, Bryzgalov..
FKK are producing just fine with the minutes they're getting.
I know how much you value defense; do you really want to give a group of guys without an NHL regular season between them less sheltered minutes?
Cant understand why it takes a guy to be a PPG for eight games to finally get a look on the powerplay. He could get some solid net presence for us there on either the first or second unit.

Maybe because 8 games isn't a lot of games.
Maybe they didn't play PP in practice at the start of the season, and needed some minutes on it in practice before thrown into PP in a game.
I think it's possible to conceive without assuming the coach is incompetent.

Eight games is still a small sample size. You could also easily argue that the reason they've been able to score like they have is because they are getting sheltered minutes away from the other teams' top defensive units.
At this point I'd be very interested to see how they do with more minutes and letting them run some PP, but I can see why it hasn't happened yet.

other than the dallas eakin coached players ...this is the first time some of the leafs have been actually coached ......carlyle has the game plan ....not sure all these guys can sustain his system for an entire year ...but hes been impressive .....the leafs look coached .....and i cant say they looked this organized since pat burns ...
Him and Kadri work well together. Goes to the net and gets all the garbage goals. The way he is playing right now there are few NHL'ers that can play that style. Glad we have him.
It is still astounding to me how many people had a hate on for Frattin. The guy can shoot, skate and hit, what kind of a hockey IQ do some people have? He was a keeper since day one, I'm not surprised at all And YES he is top six
He has an extremely heavy shot, he hits like a truck, he goes in the dirty areas.
Could definitely be a 20+ goal scorer in this league while bringing a solid overall game.
Can't wait till him and Biggs are on the same line one day.

He's perfect for the powerplay too, just wait with that quick, heavy shot. He can go to the net, we will be watching Kadri/Frattin on the PP for years to come.
Hes playing great, i cant believe people still dont understand he is being sheltered though. I rather him producing playing less minutes than struggling against top defensive pairings. Definitely has been better than i anticipated!

Wait...there are people who hate Frattin? How is that even possible?
Or are we talking about the same impatient people who thought Frattin was a write off because he slowed down a bit in the Marlies this season and then didn't make the opening roster for the Leafs?
I wish we had more kind of players like Frattin. He's can take and dish out the physicality (helps that he's built like a tank and has amazing lower body strength). He's got a great shot and he's not the kind of player that's always looking for the pretty goals. He'll hustle his ass to the front of the net and score a garbage goal if need be. He's also got great speed.
Instead he is held off the powerplay and he is on the third line.
You realize defensive coverage improves as one moves to higher tier lines. You think he is going to have the same experience playing on the first line as the third?

Reason: Unnecessary flaming.
This is only the beginning. It'll take Frattin a bit of time to figure out the danger areas in the NHL. It took some time in NCAA as well, but once he figured it out, they start flying in.
The Leafs need about 5 or 6 Frattins, he is a keeper and not someone to include in a trade package. He plays like a freakin mse, and goes straight to the net and scores. His only fault is that he's not from Ontario.
I have full trust in Caryle will manage his minutes effectively for optimal development.
