According to www.sportsclubstats.com the chances we make it are 1.2%. If we go 12-2-2 we would have a 76% chance to make it. The Kings game IMO was the final nail in the coffin.
Unless the team goes 12-2-2, it's over. That means take it one game at a time, if they beat the Oilers, 11-2-2, and so on. Every game is a must-win, and if we win the next game, keep playing Hiller non-stop until it's statistically impossible for the Ducks to make the playoffs. Playoff revenues are great and it's something this team wants desperately.
Well there's no question they'll keep playing till it's over. Hell, they'll keep playing after it's over. But basically, it's all but over.
They'll keep playing on the golf course?
It's not over until it's over. I think the Ducks will pull some wins now that the schedule lightens up a bit, but there's a couple of big wins we have to get from teams we've traditionally struggled against, even at our best.
What's really unfortunate, is the Ducks did what they had to do on that grueling road trip.. then they come home and stink it up. That being said, I'm still proud of our guys for playing their ***** off the better part of the last 2 months.
Even though I still have a tiny bit of hope in the back of my head, I think we should more or less forget about the post season.
To be honest, as of right now I wouldn't mind some short term pain for long term gain. If we lost a few in a row then brought in some youngsters to see what they look like at the NHL level. Then get a higher draft pick for hopefully a very talented 2nd line center. I say, why not?

Well I'd only be on board with that when it's statistically over. At this point I consider it to be done. I mean, we received no help from Chicago's loss, Dallas beating Calgary in the shootout (extra point to CGY), and Colorado shutting out Minnesota...I mean we're out after 3 more losses (4 if by some miracle no more 3 point games go down) and that number could fall on it's own if SJS (94 point pace) and DAL (93 point pace) keep jostling for position the way they are. Since 93 points is the magic number the Ducks ACTUALLY can't lose even more than two more games. Sooo....basically we're done. There are 4 teams above us who only want a ticket to dance with SJ and Dallas for that last playoff spot. Anaheim is the odd team out.
We're now playing for draft position. How low can we play ourselves into? It's a guarantee of at worst picking 14th. I see LA, Calgary, Washington/Winnipeg finishing above us in the standings but missing the playoffs so I think the Ducks will at LEAST be a top 10 drafting team.

The Ducks have also had horrible luck in how the other teams play each other, for some reason I think nearly every game between two WC playoff hopefuls have gone to OT / SO, especially if Calgary is involved.
Well after the road trip the Ducks were on course for 92 pts which at some stage looked like it might suffice, if only just. To accomplish that called for (roughly speaking) 2W out of every 3GP.
The maths is such that every loss on top of that would have to be offset by a win, plus two extra wins. So after Buffalo a streak of 3W was called for. Chalk one vs CGY, but the Kings upped it back to 5-0, or 7-1.
This just to get back on track for 92, -ish. Which in itself may or may not be enough, as PHX and most recently Stars have found the groove and are charging ahead like there's no tomorrow.
So in a nutshell, that was the season that was. It was fun while it lasted, but now it's finally over. Thanks for all the fish.

This is more the product of the NHL standings system more than anything else. Hockey sucks when both teams sit back a little with the game tied in the third because they are trying to get a least one point.
As for the Ducks, I don't think they will make the playoffs but I want them to keep playing winning hockey.
Broman, the race has made t so 94 is needed to knock off Dallas or SJ. I've been saying that since January when people looked at Minnesota's 90 point pace and assumed that would be the magic number. It's looking like 12-2-0 is necessary, but one loss to San Jose. Potentially even an OTL can end things right then and there.
