According to a source, Kimmo Timonen is out with a back injury. It isn't disc-related, however, so he isn't expected to be out long.
Timonen's injury was classified as a lower-body injury on Sunday, when he missed the Capitals game. Missing Sunday’s game meant that Timonen’s Iron Man streak ended at 248 consecutive games played.
Kimmo also might finish his NHL career to play a year or two on a team back home, perhaps KalPa, his youth team, which happens to be owned by Sami Kapanen and Scott Hartnell among others.
It's certainly possible. A lot of Finns and Swedes do just that.

not when they haven't won a cup and are a significant piece on a team with a good chance to do that.

Kimmo is one of the part-owners of KalPa, so I couldn't imagine him playing for any other team (at least not in SM-liiga) after his NHL career.

Ya, I think I remember hearing that story. Timonen and Kapanen were talking about the team they owned back in Finland. Hartnell over heard them saying that someone was looking to sell their stock in the team so Hartnell ended up buying 5% or something
Timonen (back issues) and Meszaros (suspected groin) remain out indefinitely, though a source said their injuries are not serious enough to threaten the remainder of the season or postseason.
But thats what makes soo much sense. He is so unlike others of like characteristics:
D-man that does nothing related to 'D', a tree which absorbs oxygen instead of producing it....
He is essentially useless.
We'd all rather that he ride the pine than make an ash of himself. There's no good birching about it because Holmgren can't palm him off on any other sap GM. Even if Lilja leaves with his trunk down to Adirondack, it wouldn't spruce up the team's current situation.
At this point, Lappy is just going through the motions until he can retire, correct? Is there even a slight chance that he gets medically cleared?
It's all but certain he won't play again. Laperriere has been working with some players (draft choices more so) in the system and has done some scouting, too. He said he'd been mentoring some of the younger guys, too, focusing on life issues -- big brother type capacity.
Kimmo Timonen, who will miss his third straight game tonight, skated hard Thursday morning at Skate Zone.
Sources say Timonen has a back issue, but it’s not a herniated disk. He had played 248 consecutive games until his back began acting up on the Flyers' last road trip out west.
Timonen was on the ice at least 30 minutes with Ian Laperriere, doing sprints, circles and cut drills with cones. He appeared to be moving fine on his skates.
“I’m feeling good, but I can’t do any interviews until next week,” Timonen said. “See you in April.”
He was smiling. We don’t think he intends to sit out until April, either.
General manager Paul Holmgren said he is taking it slowly with Timonen on his recovery to assure he’s ready for the playoff grind that looms in the near distance.

Yeah, that's really too bad. All this because of a blocked shot without a visor. Thanks MSE.
