CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $69,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $68,593,000; BONUSES: $3,555,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $0,407,000 Cap Space
But with Bourdon, Rinaldo, Wellwood, Sestito and Gustaffson all eligible for the AHL this isnīt a problem!!
So we would get a lot of very important things in our lineup:
Toughness (Iginla, Downie, Stuart)
Scoring ability (Iginla, Downie, Vrbata)
Good Backup (Harding has shown great backup skills for less money)
Leadership (Iginla, Suter)
Defensive Forwards (Vrbata, Iginla)
- Imagine what Giroux could do with two physical, but also dangerous scorers on his wing and the extra place on the ice, this two would give him!
- Imagine what a Read, Couturier, Vrbata Line can do against the 1st scoring line of the Opponent!
- Imagine what Schenn could do with Downie and Simmonds on his Wings!
- Imagine what Stuart and Suter can bring to this team! We would have the best defense in the league maybe better than the old Mighty Ducks Defense!
But.........
1. We donīt trade Briere!
2. We donīt get Downie for Voracek
3. We donīt get Iginla for JVR and Briere
4. We donīt sign Suter for 6.25, he will sign for a lot more
5. We donīt get Stuart, he will sign with Detroit
6. Phoenix will never trade Vrbata unless someone overpays as hell
7. Harding donīt want to be the secured backup, I think he goes too a franchise where he can battle for the #1 Spot...
So i donīt understand all the dreaming on here... stay more realistic pls
Totally agree. Anything over 6.3 would be absolutly rediculous. He's a great #2.
6.3 is Timonen money 4 years ago when the cap was $50,300,000. 8.3, yes, is ridiculous, but I would argue that 6.3M is probably equally ridiculous in this day and time with the cap about to get another very largest bump.
Anything in the 7-7.5M AAV range would be great value. If we could get him to sign a 10-year deal, it could get to be a lower hit, but at 27, my guess is that he wants a 6-7 year deal, then try to cash in once more.
7 years, 52 million (7.43M) is about what we're looking at.
Manning is looking REAL good. I think he's a D prospect worth being excited over. He might need a little more time, but I think we're gonna see him full-time in the line-up sometime soon.
If Suter is getting less then 7 he will be a Predator. For people saying 8.3 is rediculous I suggest you look at Rick Deckards post again. 7.7-8.5 is what he will cost if the cap is close to 70 mil

Every single time an AHLer gets called up and doesn't absolutely suck someone (usually multiple people) post this. Wellwood, Kalinski, MAB, Marshall, Holmstrom, Hyka (an even more extreme example...), etc. The kid is playing well, no doubt. But I don't know why < 30 minutes of ice time where all he did is not suck would make you think he is going to be a full-time NHLer any time soon. I'm not saying he won't be, but this is classic HFBoards. If he makes a couple turnovers tonight everyone will be all over him asking why this guy was even signed.

IRL I'd bet that Jody Shelley won't be waived. He's an enforcer and a great guy to have in the locker room. As long as he fits by $1 and he takes a 14th forward role I can't see him gone.
He's not even in the locker room for 50-60 games a a season, he's in the press box. What's the point?
He is for practises and stuff. It's not like this team would carry a 14th forward otherwise regularly anyway. He fills a niche and can tolerate more than 5 minutes of ice-time a game even at age 36. Yeah, he's not a great fighter anymore, and yeah, enforcers are being fazed out, but it's 1 more season. He's had quite a career, it'd suck to make him have to finish it in the AHL.

All careers must end. He's definitely at the end of his. His cap space is worth more than he is. He can always get the Cote treatment.
they need a defensemen they are not going resign turnover machine carle he's not worth 6 million, i'll put that towards webber, especially with pronger retiring, maybe kimmo, i dont care what he says, he might change his mind, so you have to get a number 1 defensemen in webber, maybe resign kabrina if kimmo retires, you cant let grossmen go he's the best on the ice,
otherwise the goaltending is really going to rocked all over next season, i dont care who's in net, it's going to be a rough 2012-13 season if homer doesnt address the defense seriously.
with briere, you are not going to get anything from him, if you trade him, his value is low, plus he's getting older, best thing is try to get another winger or center that will work with briere in fa, that's if jagr walks, or ride his contract.

so he gets paid a million dollars to be a practice cheerleader?
if they need a cheerleader i will end my life in germany and fly over the ocean to be the flyers cheerleader. I only need a minimum contract in the nhl. I never will play 1 minute on the ice, but i can serve the penalty for too many men, or if a goaltender gets a penalty.
I can play good soccer, so i can help the guys before games. I can workout with Jagr the pushes he tries before games....
Iīam the perfect fit for this team... Mr. Shelley can go and we save over 500.000$
Someone to keep an eye on is Justin Schultz. Wisconsin D is extremely talented and could be a UFA on July 1st if he goes back to finish this semester in school. I believe that was what Bob Mac was saying earlier on twitter. If he doesn't sign with Anaheim he will have his own fate in his hands. Maybe the Flyers can send a nice offer his way. Just a thought. That's
He would give us that top d prospect too. And they Flyers might be able to offer him good minutes for next year.
On top of that, I'm pretty sure Sestito has more fights in nearly half as many games. Sestito has only two less hits as well. Sestito also has the same number of points. So...yeah. Jody Shelley serves no purpose and is nowhere near worth 1.1 million dollars of cap space.

Sestito's not going to fight John Scott or Eric Boulton though.
For his face's sake, I hope Shelley doesn't fight John Scott either.
John Scott has a horrible fight card, look at who he's fought. Parros, Koci, and to an extent Westgarth are as formidable as it gets. Shelley would probably beat him, even at 36.
