If we can keep Grossmann and Kubina for a combined 5.5 to 6 and let Carle walk I am fine with that. Timonen, Meszaros, Coburn, Grossmann, Kubina, Gus, Lilja (maybe another depth d-man besides Lilja) is actually ok unless Coburn and Meszaros go back to severely underperforming the way they did in the first half of the season.
However if Suter is interested in Philadelphia I would be all for letting Jagr and Carle walk, trading Meszaros, and using the space on Suter and one of either Grossmann or Kubina (preferably Grossmann).
Best case scenerio Suter signs with Philly and they somehow squeeze him AND Grossmann under the cap without having to move Meszaros and we can go Suter, Timonen, Coburn, Meszaros, Grossmann, Gust, Lilja/whoever.
Offensively I would let Jagr walk, use his cap space towards D, move Couturier into the top 9, and move Briere to wing and let Wellwood be our go to guy for top 9 injuries. Jagr is a great luxury to have but unless he's willing to come back for half of what he's making now I don't think he's worth it. Even if he would come back at a reduced price he is kind of blocking a spot in a top 9 that should be going to Couturier next year.
I would rather resign Carle for market value than lose JVR getting Suter and continue to grow our defensive prospects (I've changed my mind on Carle).
Keep our forward core amazing, keep an above average defense, see what pans out regarding top tier defenseman without giving up assets. Cash, sure. Assets, not until it makes sense (but before it puts the Flyers into a desperate state.) Not clear we're there yet.

Not much. 1st maybe 2nd round exit. Got to have very good D.
Handcuffing yourself with all of carle, coburn, and mezsaros long term is a recepie for mediocre D with no flexibility moving forward.
That is not good enough for your core D
After next season Kimmo's 6.33 mil cap hit will be off the books which gives them some flexibility. I don't really think having half the D locked up for several years is a bad thing. Just my opinion

See to have that much cap room left is pretty incredible, and I agree with your estimates. If we could set this up in the offseason it would be incredible.
**** no, and I'm someone who wants to get a true sniper for G's wing in the worst way. You don't win with players like Alexander Semin.
I donīt want to see players like Kovalchuk, Semin, Ovechkin, Subban on these team. They donīt won anything in the NHL but think of themselves they are the best players in the world. Questionable workrate, questionable locker room presence, big problem when they arenīt on their game....
I really want to have Briere instead who take rookies into his house and show them the way of living as a NHL Player (Giroux, Couturier). Or iīll take Hartnell who does everything on the ice, he donīt need himself to be good in scoring to help the team, after he has learned to stop taking stupid penalties....
The Flyers donīt need players that donīt want off the ice in a PP (Kovalchuk). They donīt need Superstars who donīt play defence (Ovechkin). We donīt need Players who take stupid penalties all the time (Subban Minor penalty leader in the nhl)
^^^ Why is Ovechkin and Kovalchuk used in the same line with Semin and P.K Subban and then compared to Briere?
Briere is nowhere near Koavlchuk or Ovechkin. Someone, needs a clue?
I suggest you check Briere's minor penalties stats before comparing, and why not check other stats as well. If Danny does not attack he is useless on the ice.
This offseason is going to be a interesting as last years. The Flyers have only 7 mil in cap space to sign Jagr, Voracek, and at least 2 defensive spots. If Pronger is not back, it will be three with an extra 5 mil in space at this years cap number. However, the new cba is projected to lower the cap. With only 6/7 defensive types in the AHL, the Flyers are going to have to move pieces around and find bargains. I just hope we don't see another Eminger- like trade to get a cheap defenseman. I think JVR will be gone. The rumors around him at the deadline remind me of the rumors around Carter last year.

So we move JVR but keep Jagr? Is that what you are saying?
I thought the cap was going up this year to 69 million. I guess with the pending CBA negotiations, owners are going to want the players to take less revenue. Anyways, I still don't like the idea of giving Suter over 6 million a year. What happens when Giroux's deal is up? There's no way that Giroux will settle for anything less than what Suter gets. This just has the potential for things to get real ugly.

Giroux will need new deal in 2014-2015 2 years from now. Briere will be 37 and in the last year of his contract. May very well retire in 2013-14.
The only major deals against our cap will be Pronger around 5M a year and Bryzgalov will be making 5.6M. Maybe Hartnell will get a little over 4M a year too. No one else desrves major raises.
