I am normally pretty against trading down, but I really like Murphy and think he could be a 50p+ d-man in the NHL. So long as the Oil don't have the chance to take Yakupov, if they could get Murphy along with a pick where Reinhart/Trouba/Faska/Galchenyuk was around, I would be fine with the Oil doing that.

Couturier and by a pretty wide margin to be honest.

I love the idea of trading our 1st for a solid D and top 6 guy. Murphy and Faksa could really fill our roster out nicely and since Murphy has an extra year on any of this year's draft picks, with the exception of Murray, I think he will make the step to the NHL quicker.

not a bad concept. I'd ask stu, and do exactly as he said.

You won't get Murphy, and here's why.

The Canes have avoided, like the plague, taking a defenseman in the first round, until last year, because of their "Jack Johnson" experience. For them to feel SO strongly about this defenseman to take him, tells me they aren't moving him any time soon.

I agree to an extent with them never drafting D in the first round after being burned and they are obviously high on Murphy. That being said they have had a revolving door of wingers centering the second line and Dalpe who they hoped would step up has taken a step back. They could be open to moving someone who isn't on the roster to fill a gaping hole at 2C, especially if they resign Allen who they have expressed intrest in doing.

I really think the Oilers need to do what they can to pry Brandon Gormley away from the Yotes. He is a solid all around dman who can slot into our pairings next year. The yotes are stacked on the back end so you got to think there is something we could work out.

Would give us alot more flexibility of who we pick at the draft as well.

Would Gagner + 2nd/3rd/4th get it done? I have my doubts.

I would be game for that but only if we draft a C who is NHL ready (Grigs, Galch?).

I think Gagner for Gormley or Rundblad is something they'd be willing to listen to.

Maybe they throw in a prospect and we throw in Peckham or something.

If they miss the playoffs or go out in the first round again I think they're going to have to shake things up and get more offense up front. They have more than enough on the back end. Also Ray Whitney is friggin' old, he can't play at that level forever.

I'd give 2nd pick ++++++++++++++ for J. Staal. Anyone else? He's the type of player this team needs.

You look at the Yotes forwards and they really lack young depth. Hanzel and Mikkel Boedker. Hanzel is a nice 2 way guy but Boedker has not taken off as they had hoped.

I can see them being very interested in Gagner or PRV. Personally Gagner could slot in and replace what they thought they had in Turris.

Also trading Gormley leaves them:
Yandle, OEL, Schlemko, Klesla, and Rundblad, as their core guys and up future guys like Connor Murphy and Michael Stone.

To me we match up very well.

If you're talking about our 1st rounder then I will just keep it polite and say no thank you.

I think I prefer Gormley. But I also think that at some point we need a guy on the backend that can put up some points.

Not I. I have never been that big on J Staal's offensive potential and I certainly wouldn't be ok with us offering up the 2nd overall ++++++++++++++ for him.

The other plus for Phoenix too is Gagner (unlike perhaps Turris or Wheeler) is a kid with a great attitude. Works hard, no-nonsense, never raised a stink here in Edmonton through some tough times.

So in that respect they don't have to be wary.

I was impressed that he was the first Oiler who apparently texted RNH congrats for being drafted, even though RNH is likely the guy to take his job, lol.

I would if he was younger.

isnt he like a year or 2 from UFA?

I think hes highly underrated, would be a great 2C.

You're way off. Horcoff did that years ago.

I would absolutely love if Justin Schultz trolled Anaheim, became a UFA July 1st, and signed with the Oilers. Oh my oh my.

Only if the plus is Horcoff + Barker + Renney.

LOL. That almost makes that pick a 5th rounder with all the negative value those 3 bring.

Just joking. A 7th rounder.

From this tweet I'm guessing?

Bob McKenzie ‏ @TSNBobMcKenzie
Top ANA prospect Justin Schultz, talented U of Wisco dman whose season ended yesterday, said to be considering all his options, including:

1. Returning to Wisco for his senior season (unlikely IMO).
2. Signing 2 yr entry level deal with ANA and burns 1st yr by playing now...
3. Leave school at end of semester, become UFA July 1, sign with NHL team of choice. Hearing no decision is imminent, will take his time.

Is there a particular reason why Anaheim isn't playing Schultz?

Maybe they've soured on him, but I would love to see him go UFA and the Oilers bring him in. Free Draft pick, lol

By all indications, they want to. Justin is the one dragging his feet.
