A nice article which basically concludes that going the UFA route would be the best from a financial and preference to play perspective.
He'd be a guy we'd be wise to take a flyer on if he reaches FA.
We should offer him Rookie Max and guarantee him a spot on the roster. We are desirable going forward. Especially of he ia confident enough in him self that he can be one of the missing peices.

If I were the Oilers, I would do that in a second. RHD. Offensive powerhouse. Could quarterback our PP (giving us less reason to ever play Potter again). He would complement Nick Schultz so well, IMO. Absolute perfect fit for our team, tbh. He's from BC, too.

Confuse the **** out of everyone, esp if they have similar numbers.
In other news, if CBJ holds on to the #1 pick and since Nail is done for the season, maybe we have a shot at #2. Who knows? It's not what we need, but he is skilled
Wow. I never heard of Justin Schultz until today, but he has some crazy stats for a D! 44 points in 37 games this year! He's also listed at 6'1" 185lbs.
What are they chances we could get him to want to come here? We do have a bright future and a great group of young players that he would be a huge part of. What would it take?

Has anyone watched him play, or just looking at his numbers and thinking hes a lock to be an offensive dman? Is he ready to just jump in and be a 2nd pairing defenseman? 44 points in 37 games is impressive, but I mean Petry had strong numbers coming out of College and he took a fair amount of time in the AHL.

Nope haven't seen him play but going by what Bob Mac has said (scouts consider him better than Gardiner) and reading what Anaheim fans say about him (i.e. he's a #1 in the making) I definitely am intrigued by the guy.

I don't know that it matters. If you can get a guy who is 22 and has potential you have to take him.

But to bring him in and think hes automatically a 2nd pairing dman? On this defense he very well could be, but bringing in players like that its nice to have leaders on D to mentor him...I think just throwing him on our D in the NHL is the perfect way to ruin his career.
Am I the only one who wants Justin Schultz from Anaheim just so we could have a Schultz-Schultz pairing?
Would anyone be willing to do this before July 1 if he isn't signed? Conditional 5th rounder to have a 2 day window to talk to him, that pick becomes them getting their 2nd back next year if he signs with us?

.......That actually makes a fair bit of sense from both parties.
It's Cogliano for Schultz, which we would've done.
For them it gets them their 2nd back for Schultz.
I'd rather do a bigger than 2 day condition (maybe like a 5-6 days), but none the less, makes sense.
Sign Garrison for 3-4 years (something around $3.5M/yr wouldn't be too terrible with the cap increase), and roll into next year with:
Smid-Petry
Shultz-Schultz
Whitney-Garrison
Sutton
Send Potter down to the AHL, Sutton stays as #7 D-man.
