Yeah, you're probably right. Then we draft BPA and wait a year or two - we might have to give up one of the 4-5 kids (including this year's choice) at forward to get a solid top pairing dman.

Would be an OK off-season. Maybe target a Jordin Tootoo also.
2 things:

1.) Wouldn't Tampa just sign Harding if it worked out like that?

2.) I'd love to get Allen, but rumor has it that he wants $4M+. Not only that, but he's limited. No doubt he's terrific defensively, but after picking up Shultz, we need to add someone back there with some semblance of offense.

Anyone know if Modano or Rivers are just busy today and haven't seen the news?

Love how grabovski at a higher cap hit and longer term is a good deal, but hemsky is not. Very similar players IMO. Grabo is more healthy but who knows how he'll be 5 years from now.

What's awesome is that he is making the same ampunt as horcoff. Damn that's a bad contract....

It's the Leafs, they'd have to be on Mars not to hear the news.

Modano could be feeding his dogs or Rivers drinking and telling stories about the '95 WJs in Red Deer

Agreed on all points. What a bad deal. I know someone might get that desperate in the offseason, but it just looks terrible.

I would rather have Grabo than Hemsky, but Grabo's contract is a lot longer.

Grabovski hasn't even had a 60 point season yet... And that probably won't happen this year either.

Regarding the Grabovski signing, where does this put us in contract talks with Gagner? Obviously lower and Gagner isn't a UFA, but I think our hopes of a lower cap hit may have gone out the window.

What could we get for a Gagner + Whitney package at the draft?

I was thinking between 3 and 3.5. With this signing, I'm thinking it is now between 4 and 4.5.

I was in the same boat, but I think it won't get up to 4.5. Probably be around 4 imo

Did anyone else see that rumor that we almost moved Belanger on deadline day?

Ya I'd certainly take Grabo at Hemskys conract. But in my opinion, neither contract are bad.

Rivers tweeted me back like an hour ago. Still sticking to his guns and ignored the whole Grabovski deal

"@golfer2354 @9modano it gets worse everyday. Feel bad, the people of Edmonton deserve more from this guy"

Did you ask him if the bar flies are getting tired of his stories of the 1995 WJ?

@DarrenDreger: Turco would be ineligible if claimed by another team for remaining reg season and playoffs because he didn't sign before trade deadline.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: So only motivation for a claim on Turco would be to keep BOS from getting him. If he clears, eligible to play for BOS in reg season only.

Would you guys consider this if we land 1st overall?

To LA: 1st overall, Gagner

To EDM: Kopitar, Voinov

Supposedly Kopitar and Sutter aren't seeing eye-to-eye. As much as Gagner has progressed, the chance of having a 1-2 punch of RNH, Kopitar down the middle would surely be too much to resist. Voinov wouldn't be as complete as the high end Dmen in this draft, but he'd bring the same level of offence and could play right now. LA also gains significant cap room should they pursue Suter. They also get Carter back down the middle.

Our top 6:
Hall-RNH-Ebs
MPS-Kopitar-Hemsky

Their top 6:
Yakupov-Carter-Williams
Gagner-Richards-Brown

potential D pair of Suter-Doughty

If they get 1st overall they keep it, IMO.

Hall-Hopkins-Yakupov

I don't think they'll get another 1st overall...but man....when have three 1st overall picks ever played together anywhere?

what would you want added to accept it

i think its pretty tempting...kopitar is 24, pretty young. voynov would be very useful.

frankly i doubt LA would do it.
