Zettler to coach Marlies next year?

Or can Burke keep Eakins even if the Marlies have a good run at the Calder Cup?

Eakins has been head coach for how long? And people think some one is going to steal him already? Slow it down.

First Eakins needs to win or make a decent playoff push.
Then some NHL team has to consider replacing their coach.
Then Eakin will be considered.

I think more likely find a position in "mid-season" on a struggling team like Muller did.
But Muller had NHL experience as an assistant - that is still a leap for Eakins to make.

Eakins wants to step into a head coaching job, so if one is not available I'm sure he'll be back with Toronto.

He was an assistant for Maurice for two seasons IIRC. Started as an assistant with the Marlies, went to become an assistant for two seasons in the AHL, then moved up to a player development position, then back to the Marlies as Head Coach.

Dallas has said that he likes the authority of being a head coach, so hed rather be a head coach in the AHL than an assistant in the NHL. So ya its either hes back as the Marlies head coach next year, or hes the head coach of a NHL team

Zettler was retained by the Leafs not fired.

Just checked that and he did have a couple years of assistant experience on the marlies. I thought that was the knock against him - but I can see a small market struggling team making a run for him mid season.

No way the Leafs make him available mid-season to leave anywhere. Its beginning of the season or bust.

Meant to say "went to become an assistant for two seasons in the NHL." Not AHL.

Burke will let him out of his contract if he gets an NHL offer.

Eakins has been passed over by Burke for Leafs coach and he's pissed...highly likely he will leave the Leafs organization as soon as something better comes along.

Might as well use him as a scout since they are paying him anyway.

If I were Burke I'd offer to pay him like an NHL coach to stay with our Marlies.

Or make him an assistant next year.

I disagree. I believe it would be a bad move for him as a manager to stand in the way of someone achieving a promotion like that. If Eakins got an NHL gig, Burke would almost go so far as offering to drive him to the airport. His business is about making friends not enemies.

I agree, my expectation is along these same lines. If Eakins does well in a Calder run, he may need a big payday to stick around.

Burke will just use "Big Blue" aka MLSE funds.

The implication of him being 'passed over' is that there was little to no consideration for Eakins in the position.

I don't think that was the case.

So you think that Eakins expected to get called up and replace Wilson with 18 games left in the season? You don't think Burke talked to Eakins and told him the situation and what's going to happen? I'm sure Eakins understands that Burke is going to let him finish the job with HIS team before he worries about the Leafs..

LOL thanks for answering my question clearly you failed to comprehend Eakins interview after Carlyle was hired in which he clearly said he was very dissapointed he didn't get the Leafs job. Did you even hear it or you are just talking outta your delusional ass?

You can take it to the bank, Eakins will be the next coach of either the Islanders or Blue Jackets - mainly because he'll come cheap.
