even if he proves valuable in the playoffs, I see the Rangers moving forward with their young players next season. There's a reason why he was only signed for 1 year.
If he's fine with being a 4th liner most of the time instead of on the 3rd, playing PK, I think he can stick around. It really depends on how the kids coming up possibly play in camp. I don't see a team signing him early in the offseason. He could get a camp invite to see if he makes the team, and I think he owes it to the Rangers to a degree to take the camp offer and not demand a contract with his play this season as well as his guaranteed contract this season. If he's our depth forward for next season, I'd be very happy with him staying, otherwise, we might look into a younger version of what Feds can bring with more speed.
EDIT: Also remember who stepped his game up when Cally went down. Feds on the roster next season as a depth 4th liner could be a blessing in disguise with injuries always being a factor.

I wouldn't have had any interest in re-signing him if he had scored 20 goals this year. Didn't want to re-sign him last year either. He isn't necessary and isn't in the future plans. Move along.
There is good reason why Feds has multiple rings. He is AWESOME in the playoffs. When the games matter the most he will be there and he will lead the youth on this team by example. He is a quiet champion, with the will to win, the will to be the best by beating the best.
Feds knows he's expendable, but he's a good soldier with good experience for the POs.
I like him on this roster a lot more than Johnny Malkin, but he's getting up there and we need to clear cap space so I don't expect him back. He was a good stop-gap winger though.

this is why he was signed..and Torts knows him very well... teams win with the guys with grit and ability to score the big goal.....Matteau wasnt a great regular season player either on the Rangers..
He's a decent piece to have with the playoffs coming up. Solid defensive player who steps it up when it matters and a good vet. to have. That being said, I wouldn't resign him lol.
I never really expected much from him during the regular season. As long as he comes up big in the playoffs like he did last year, I have no problem holding a roster spot for him for another year.
If he do comes back, he's definitely not going to get the same minutes he's getting now, seeing as though the Rangers will look to pick up some help at LW, but he's a valuable presence that many teams would love to have.
He is a Toterella favorite but sadly I think he is at the end of his rope. He always seems to come up big when it counts so lets see the Rangers use him to his strength which is winning the Cup
he's technically sound and always seems to show up when others don't. with that in mind, can't see him being here next year which is sad, good ranger imo.
Its possible, but I think nothing is written in stone yet and that it will come down to circumstances this summer/the rest of the year.
If you think about it, we have had very few injuries this season and hence our depth has looked fine. Feds is still a safe option who gets the job done and if we worry about depth and he is willing to sign cheap and short term, I guess he still could come back for another year.
I think the main reason John Mitchell was brought in was to become Fedotenko 2.0. IMO, he has done just that and for less money and at a younger age. Keep Mitchell and replace Fedotenko.

by the way a 7th round pick for Mitchell has turned out to be a great deal
For next yr I see it as mostly the same team. They likely go for Parise and if not just let a kid like Kreider, Miller or Thomas steal a spot or two in camp
positions can vary but mostly the same squad as now. Sather may get creative and pull of a deal too.
C- Richards, Stepan, Boyle, Mitchell ( maybe Lindberg or a faceoff C brought in )
RW- Gaborik, Callahan, Prust, Rupp
LW- Dubinsky, Anisimov, Hagelin, X( Kreider, Miller, Thomas )
G- Lundqvist, Biron so the same
D- McD, Girardi, Staal, Sauer, DZ, Stralman but with Erixon in.
I think Bickel has earned a one yr dirt cheap NHL deal as crazy as that is. Eminger walks, Woywitka only if he takes a 2 way deal so he plays in CT.
i think the guy has been great for us all season. he fills his role perfectly. when you're moving onto a youth movement a couple of guys like feds are exactly what you need.
i see him having a big playoff run and getting another 1 year deal in the offseason, or getting a job somewhere else and having a good run there.
I'm still not sold on Mitchell for some reason. He plays a very "meh" game. Love Feds but he's on his last legs. Maybe bring him back cheap next year for the third line if there's room.
