They must not have any good goalie prospects in the system.
Actually they do, they want so experience as they are fighting for play-off position. If this happened earlier in the year or they where in 1st by a large margin net they would go with either Hutchinson or Khudobin.
so not eligible for the playoffs, assuming he clears waivers (which he will)...I don't get this signing, then. Why not just call up whoever they have down in the minors? They're going to need that person for the playoffs anyway

Khudobin is injured
As for Hutchinson they dont feel he is NHL ready + without him they have no starter in AHL
What I've gathered from their board.... They want their goalies staying in Providence for playoffs or something. So Turco will likely fill in for the next 6 weeks while Rask heals. He'll play a handful of games.
I always thought Marty was a good mentor for Crawford. Wonder what sort of season Corey would be having this year if we still had Turco...
Crawford is in 27 and has played in the NHL for 4 years now, granted on and off but still 4 years. If he needed a babysitter then he will never be ready.
Turco as bad as he may be will allow Thomas rest down stretch
Rask will be big ? given type of injury. Who knows how long it will take him to get back and ready to actually play (6-8 weeks is timetable but with those injuries you never know a setback could come)

On and off? That's funny.
Before last season, Crawford had 8 GP for the Blackhawks over four different seasons and three of those games were coming in as relief. He could use a good veteran presence.

Best of luck to Turco. He fell short talent-wise here, but was nothing but a class act throughout the whole thing. Hope he does manage to rebound a bit and play for a few more years, before eventually retiring and becoming a coach of some sorts in the league, which I honestly think will be his eventual future.
