The official no more excuses for Vanek thread

We've heard them all.

"Roy is a cancer to Vanek, stop playing them together!"
"He's injured, he's battling through the injuries out there!"
"Ruff is ruining him! He doesn't give him enough ice time!"

Elite players don't slump like this. Elite players don't disappear in the biggest games of the year. You don't win with players that do things like that.

Enough with the excuses. No more, Tom. Man the **** up and play hockey the way we all know you can.

I agree, I used to defend him a lot more than I should have. Especially after he carried us in the beginning of the year. However, elite players need to play better than this. It's unacceptable.

Your mistake was thinking he was ever elite.

On pace for only 62 points, and will probably finish with less than 60. That's not acceptable, Thomas.

Sometimes it looks like he's playing with a gun shot wound. I was particularly sick when I watched him all but excuse himself from an opposing defense man's path in the o-zone RW corner. All he had to do was stand his ground and keep him to the boards or around the horn. His soft play lead to another goal against.

He's shooting, which I like, but Vanek is not doing all of the little things that makes him a great all around player.

It might be time to get used to the fact that he's not elite.

Vanek carried this team in the 2011 calendar year like an elite player.

I am 100% on board with selling Vanek to the highest bidder in the offseason and doing whatever it takes to sign Parise.

Winning culture.

I'd like to see him under a different coach before I make any permanent conclusions.

A guy who is great when it doesn't count and a waste when it counts... is he from Russia or what? Sure plays like it, dump him.

Maybe he's injured, maybe it's just a slump.

Either way, let him sit for 2 games to see the game from up above. It may help him not only heal, but get a different perspective on his team.

If he needs more than 2 games to heal, so be it.

He's currently not helping the Sabres get closer to a playoff spot. So sit him and let him recharge and refocus.

It certainly isn't all his fault

It's hardly that conclusive. You're telling me the entire first half of the season didn't count?

The problem with this whole team I think stems from lack of leadership. The talent is there we've all seen it. They look like scared mice when the going gets tough. Sure, sometimes they do well and pull through but there's a reason this 'core' hasn't won a playoff series without Drury and Briere. The culture needs to change.

It counts but now counts more... as the highest paid player on the Sabre roster at 7.1 million one would expect some engagement during a late playoff push.

But, in general, I agree with the spirit of the thread; Vanek has been bad. I think Ruff should sit him for a game.

Roy IS a cancer though. He makes a sucky Vanek even worse.

I love it when comments bother people enough to make threads like this.

BTW, it was ME who say Roy is a cancer to Vanek. These two don't mesh well at all.

Would anyone consider sitting Vanek for a game and starting Marcus Foligno? It might be a little late in the season to send a message being in a must win situation though.

I'd sit him for 2 games for this brand of bull-****.

In the past few games, I think you lose nothing competitively by sitting Vanek. He's just not giving me anything of late. I would be totally in support of Ruff sitting him for a call up right now.

Roy has played much better than Vanek in the past 15 games or so.

Vanek's problems stem from Vanek.
