Nah it's perfectly reasonable to form an opinion on a coach after 1 game.
Hahaha. We do have a bit to run on though. The practise, for example. Can start to tell what types of changes he's going to be making to the team. How it'll pan out on the ice? Who knows. Did many people think Wilson would get fired that quickly after being extended for a 6 figure sum? Probably not. Too early to tell.
I hope he works them to the bone - sitting back is why we're in this mess, they need to work harder today then they did yesterday, then repeat.
Add to that the fact that he wants to set a tone and make an example and I'd say he did the exact right thing. No messing around, he's getting the job done.
How can he be overrated? He's won every Leaf game he's coached!
It's good to get excited about a coaching change. I don't really think he's going to be the end all be all. But he knows his systems, and likes to work the players hard. Something we haven't seen in a while. In the end though, it's all up to the players to get the job done on the ice.
I think most of us are excited because Ron Wilson obviously was not the right person to be coaching this team. Sometimes teams just need a change regardless of who their coach is. How do you think the Ducks felt about Carlyle just before they fired him?
Stanley cup winning coaches can not be over rated.....
The difference between him and Wilson is that Carlyle rewards effort and Wilson rewarded skill.
When you reward skill a team that rewards effort will beat you 8 of 10 games.
Do you need skill to win in the NHL of course you do, but without effort you will not win as well. Effort is not simply skating hard and doing nothing. It is battling for the puck and blocking shots, it is taking a hit to make a play.
It was no coincidence that Lupul blocked a shot against Montreal as he had played for Carlyle recently and knows want he wants. He is demanding and he may have a shelve life as do most good coaches but he is a lot of things but overrated is not one of them.
How in the heck can someone who has only coached one game be overrated? I mean give him some time before trying to pass judgement on him one way or the other.
Of course one game isn't a sufficient amount of time to form an opinion of a coach.
However, I would say that seven years is a fairly strong sample of evidence from which to draw conclusions, and Carlyle has one of the best coaching pedigrees in the league.
I would have been supportive of Burke's decision to hire Carlyle regradless of whether the Leafs beat the Habs or not.
Leafs nation has turned the page, everyone is loving the new coach.
Including me of course, mainly because I haven't seen a win in ages.
But I mean, it was just one win... to a poor team as well.
Are we too early to hop on the wagon?
Carlyle doesn't need to be a great coach -- just a good coach -- and the Leafs improve. Simply because Wilson was terrible.
We got rid of a dinasour. One of the longest serving coaches ever. A coach with a history of being average. Even with all those years he'd never come close to a cup.
Carlyle has experience winning. Has a cup and has won everywhere he has been.
I've been on the 'fire Wilson parade' for over two years. The sense of relief feels good.
Carlyle will be a good fit for this team. Not predicting a cup but he'll get this team to be more accountable and more consistent.
Everyone said it wasn't Wilson's fault -- it was the players -- but who's job is it to motivate the players?
I'm firmly on the bandwagon nd I ain't getting off for a while. Still pissed at Burke though for taking much longer than he should have to make this move.
