Duncan Milroy?

What is it with him?

I haven't heard much from him, I was expecting a good season because of the added experience and it seems as though he had a good development camp, at least, I thought he was good when I saw him

Is he still having trouble adjusting to the AHL? skating still holding him back?

How's he played this year?

Also, wanted to get someone's opinion on Lambert's play this season...

Thanks in advance, 417

No , imo.I think He's enough ready to produce at the pro level. This year , he won't receive icetime because of the addition of a lot of players like Ward,Lambert,Kost etc.. I saw him play twice , his wrist shot is quick , his playmaking skills aren't bad (He has puckhandling skills as well)but He needs to work on his skating. He needs to add more strenght in his lower body.In a year or too I am sure He will respond (He can't now).

I can't say why Milroy isn't scoring more, I know a few fans were saying they thought he would break out this year ala Balej or Ryder, but I don't think he can put up those kind of numbers, although I could easily wrong. I thought he was great with Kootenay, and I do think he'll be a solid AHLer no doubt, as he's good along the boards, is very smart positionally and once he gets more confidence/experience I think he'll pot more goals with that wicked shot of his.

As for Lambert he's doing ok for a rookie. Great shot, but to me he's more of a guy that stays to the outside too much, doesn't get his nose dirty too much but surely has a lot of offensive skills. He's a puck hog imo but with that shot I can't really blame him. Plus he has good size, skating and speed. He needs to work harder, play more physical and be more of a team player as defensemen/goalies will learn that he's mostly just a shooter.

Funny! What you wrote here looks a lot like what Brunet wrote about Milroy. He said that Milroy doesn't go into traffic enough in front of the net to be able to use effectively his main talent (shot). Is that true, in your opinion?

I can't say I notice this as much from Milroy as I do Lambert. I have only been to one game so far and he didn't play (although I think I'm going to a Dogs game in 2 weeks so I'll look closer at Milroy) . I did get to see Milroy several times last year but not this year just yet. I guess I would agree that Milroy doesn't go into traffic enough, at least I could say that last year, as he didn't seem to have the confidence to do much offensively imo. But I also didn't see him play at the end of the season or playoffs, where he sounded like he found much more confidence and was more productive.

Milroy played great at the rookie tournament.. he was everywhere on the ice taking things in hands.. Was the most physical foward playing with grit and intensity every shifts..

What surprised me was his overall skills and charactere, I never saw Milroy skating and stickhandling so well in the past... I was'nt very high on Milroy before past rookie tournament but his mix of grit, intensity and overall skills he showed let me thinking very good things regarding his second AHL season... I still think from what I saw that he can put very decent numbers this year but numbers are'nt everything... For exemple Higgins plays very inspirated hockey at the moment but cant reach alot of points... System, linemates, coatching... Several factors can explain low or high numbers... Ribs has put 65 pts last season but has played almost the full year on the first PP unit and Julien often used him against weakest opposition lines... I personnally think that Plekanec is already a way better center Ribs is, just give the kid the chance to prove himself on an offensive line at the NHL level. A Ryder - Plekanec - Perezhogin line would be amazing!

I've always been a big fan of Milroy, don't know exactly why but i've always thought this kid could have a decent future with us.

a couple years ago I thought he could be a very good gritty third, possibly fourth line type player for us who showed up big in the playoffs(much like he did at the junior level) which is still very much possible imo

i hope he can still be that type of player. I'm not too worried about him though considering it's only his second year of pro hockey. I see him as a longer term prospect. if he makes it great, if not we have plently of other prospects who will probably be able to make the jump to the big league and play a similar role in time.

Sounds like Brian Savage.
