Man, that's a big contract. Market price has just jumped the last few years.

Leafs couldn't really afford to lose him though.

Are you saying you'd take Grabovski over Kesler at their current contracts?

Our highest paid forward now, I think Burkie feels that Grabo is a capable 1B center. We have to get rid of Connolly and Lombardi now.

Kesler was also an rfa and purposefully took less

Wayyy to much, even as a huge Grabo fan and a leaf fan, I can't understand why Burke would pay this much...

A question to everyone who thinks he is overpayed, how much do think he would have got on the UFA market this year? He easily would have got that money from another team.

That is an obscene amount of money for Grabo on a long term deal. He's a nice player and all but that is 1st line money. Think about it, Tavares was signed to the same cap hit.

Not a fantastic deal, but im OK with it.

Compared to recent UFA forward signings, I'll take it.

Someone would have thrown 6 at him if he hit the UFA market. He took slightly less to stay there and Toronto paid slightly more than they probably wanted to keep him. Whether he is worth 5-6 is debatable but he would have got it regardless. Good deal overall

Kesler got 1 more year, was an RFA and signed 2 years ago (when the cap was lower).

Plekanec has played with Darche, Gomez, White, Moen and Geoffrion for a good portion of the year.. so yeah, Grabo has had better wingers.

Gomez qualify as worse?

Doesn't it say a lot that Plekanec can have 3 less points than Grabovski but he is seen as having a bad season...

He was right on the cusp last year, and has an even better pace this year.

I think he's capable of breaking the mark on a consistent basis. He'll be a guy that Carlyle leans on IMO.

He obviously wanted paid. But as others have said, it's market value.

Better get used to it, player movement is non-existant.

Yea, this is too much, and I like Grabo.

I had a brief convo on here with a Leaf fan a few weeks ago, saying that if Grabovski wanted too much that they should just trade him at the deadline, rather than tie yourself longterm to a contract you don't want. Grab the extra pick, save the cap space for a player that you really deem to be worth the money.

Apparently, Burke feels Grabs is worth the money.

Grabo is also having an off season.

He's been streaky, but we know what he's capable of. Production wise, I wouldn't be surprised to see him and Plekanec be very comparable throughout their careers.

Grabovski's a very good two-way 2nd line centre, but those aren't worth $5.5M for 5 years. If Burke couldn't get a more sensible financial deal then maybe he should have explored a trade.

Key word.

Didn't he play with Cammalleri?

Leafs did what they had to do. Grabovski has a lot of leverage in negotiations because he knows his value and the Leafs lack of quality centers.

No, its pathetic and any logical human being knows that no Leaf or Hab fan is accountable for what the team does... But, that doesn't stop every Leaf thread from becoming a troll fest.

All the classy Hab fans have shown up to congratulate, right? Obviously.

Grabo signs and Habs fans come to say how overpaid he is, and how Gomez and Plekanec are better.... What type of response do you expect?
