Grabo isnt worth as much as them IMO 4.5 would be about right.

Carter's salary for the next 5 years (same length as Grabo's contract):
$6,000,000
$6,250,000
$6,500,000
$6,750,000
$7,000,000

Richards:
$6,600,000
$8,400,000
$7,600,000
$7,000,000
$6,000,000

So they make more than Grabo does every year. Burke doesn't believe in cap circumvention contracts, so he didn't tack on a bunch of years at the end to artificially lower the cap hit.

Plekanec is a good comparable though.

Fair value imo. An awfully leading question in the poll if you ask me.

I think it's slight overpayment but not that much. It's a lot better than Hemsky's 5 million though.

Maybe it's because I'm a fan of a team that is cheap, but I thought 4.5 was the right amount.

David Backes got 4.5 x 5 only a year ago and it seems to me that they are similar players. I wouldn't pay Grabo more than Backes.

5.5 is too much for a 50 point player.

Desharnais: 51 pts, 850k per year
Grabovski: 45 pts, 5.5M per year

Plekanec and Kesler make 5M per year...

Grabo is overpayed by about 1-1.5M

Plekanec is a good comparison, Kesler not to so much, he was an RFA and took a discount, while playing on a good team.

As far as the Desharnais reference. MacArthur got 62 points last year at a bit over 1 Million. I guess Plekanec is grossly overpaid cause he only got 57 points while making 5 million.

See its easy to pick and choose players to manipulate an opinion.

I think Grabo is overpaid, by about .5-1 mil. Especially considering how much he is said to love Toronto.

(BTW I do not think Plek is overpaid, that was merely a comparison)

Some you really don't understand the market at all. I don't even mean a little bit... at all.

Desharnais? LOL. I refuse to believe that anyone thinks he is a real comparable to Grabo. One of the stupidest arguments I've ever seen to argue someone is overpaid.

When did Pleks sign again? I bet with cap inflation, he is right around 5.5.

.5-.75

not enough to lose a player as good as Grabs ...

he keeps on getting better every year ... maybe Burkie sees more potential left in him

Good luck on signing all your 50 point players to 850k

I mean that too, considering your team has no problem paying a 10 point player 7mil

Desharnais isn't a fair comparison and you know it.

As has been said, MacArthur outscored Plekanec while making $4M less than him last season.

With market value being where it is now, it's hard to compare Grabo to guys that signed their contract years ago, or signed ridiculously long deals.

I was really hoping for $5M per.

I was sarcastically comparing DD's contract to Grabovski's. It's obvious that DD will make more than 1M in 2 years.

I'm serious about the Plekanec and Kesler comparison though.

Unless I'm missing something, Grabovski isn't making 5.5 this year.

I don't think the Kesler one is good. As someone already pointed out, hometown discount for a Cup contending team, was an RFA, signed it before his 40 goal season where he won the Selke.

If Kesler were to hit UFA this summer like Grabo would have, he would be getting ridiculous contract offers. Much higher than $5M.

you can argue the way Kesler is playing right now is his true form. His production mainly was a result of Vancouver strong PP the last 2 years, and the decrease in PP and the Sedins regular play (point per game players before instead of 100 point guys) effects Kesler play showing his true potential as a 55-70 point guy.

~500k. Maybe.

The truth is the salary cap has gone up, and salaries have gone up accordingly.
We need to adjust our expectations on new contracts.
