Stick with flat blade?

Anyone have something like this? I've always wanted one to try an "ambidextrous" type game, but I can't find any in stores except for serious beginners.

the only way your going to be able to is take a wood blade/stick and un-curve it yourself

I think a flat stick would make ambidextrous play a lot easier. I don't know if I can do that at all, but I still want to try it out.

It actually wouldn't, the lack of curve would make shooting and passing ridiculous. The only retail stick offering a straight blade that I know of are the youth Sherwood PP19 wood sticks.

i also dont think you would have a chance to use any skills like that in a game

not to kill your dream but that sounds like a bad idea. it would have happened by now if it was possible. some guys can take shots with both hands but I doubt you'd be able to stickhandle effectively with both hands. my advice would be to get something like a pm9 curve if you want to try it

Gordie Howe used to do it. You have switch hitters in baseball. Why not in hockey? There wouldn't be enough demand for straight blades so it's not commercially feasible to mass produce senior sticks with them.

I can see "switch hitting" having some usefulness if you want to change sides, for example moving from LD to RD and switching hands to take better advantage of your angles.

That said, a much better way to approach this is to bring both right- and left-handed sticks to the bench and swap them as necessary. The chances of switching hands mid-shift are slim to none, and you're sacrificing a lot of your effectiveness with the puck.

This was my first thought as well.

I've always wanted to see somebody use a wrong-handed stick in a shootout though. Having the curve on your backhand in that situation might be interesting... Hmm... I think I have a left handed stick around here somewhere. I might try that (by myself!) at an outdoor rink one of these days...

Just use the Bauer PM9 Stamkos curve, closest you'll get to a flat blade. That or the old easton Modano curve.

I can't remember if he's ever been in a shootout, but there's a guy I play with that uses a left handed stick, but holds it right. He's got a crazy backhand, obviously but he fools goalies all the time cause they either don't realize what he's using or he'll do a spin-o-rama and fake everyone out.

Obviously it's illegal he made it to have a bit of fun during practice. He was hitting pucks on the roof of the cafe from inside the blue line (the blue and yellow stripe bit in the picture below)

easton's chara curve isnt the curve he actually uses, its used to be the gaborik, then the roy curve, not the chara
