He better get less than Grabo and Tavares....But with seeing what Grabo got and the slim FA class I think 5 is a possibility.....I hope its 4 at the most for Isles though...
I think Parenteau tests the market. Given the weak crop of forwards, he could probably get 5 million/year (more than Leino, less than Grabovski).
All it takes is 1 GM to give him $6M/per. The more players come off the UFA board, the more leverage he stands to gain. It blows my mind that a former 9th rounder who toiled in the minors is going to get a pay day like that, but it's going to happen. Desperation can lead to some seriously silly things.
Hardly, it started long ago with second contracts inflating greatly, both in the number and especially term.
This Grabovski contract is a mix of 3 factors that always influence numbers on the upside. One, he plays center, Toronto seems to be perennially in need of a good center, so they can't afford to lose him. Two, the pending free agent center at 0.65 points per game was set by the Plekanec contract last year.. precedence boy. Three, the pending free agent pool is shallow, especially at center. Grabovski would have been one of the prime available players that a GM would give a very good chance to of putting up 55-60 points.
Believe it or not, an established #2 center that is UFA aged is now worth $5.0M - that is not exclusively any teams fault.
Just wait for Zach Parise's number. A #1 center entering UFA.. Parise will get between $7 and $7.5, unless he is offered a 10 or 12 year deal to bring the number down like we've seen before.

Parenteau was absolute trash for most of his career, hopefully this turn around is for good ... not just fluke ... or else the Isles could end up with another DP signing ...
very risky
the jose bastista of hockey are we sure hes not juicing?

He might considering he is the crown jewel of the UFA forward class. I think a $7.8M like Nash is probably the magic number. The term is the real question with him.
Once Parise signs, Parenteau will become a hotter commodity. I'm curious to see if someone gives him $6M/per.

No way someone gives him 6 mill. That would put him as a top 32 Forward in the league. He is certainly not worth that!

I agree 100% with you, but it is not out of the realm of possibility. I'm just curious if it really does happen. If I had to bet, I'd say it won't. If it does happen though...

His career basically started with the islanders...

The teams that I can ID where he can fit on the ice vs. in the payroll is limiting. He needs a scoring center for him to be effective. I can't see a team making him one of their, if not highest paid players.

How good has he been Islanders fans? is he a product of who he's playing with or has he been that good?
Hes been good...cut down his turnovers from last year and hes very good stick handler. Hes a reall good passer and good on the pp.....
Also He has Produced away from Tavares so he unlike what many people think is not a product of Tavares....Off course it helps playing top min and with JT and Matty ice but if PAP is your 2nd line RW then ur in good shape....I say 2nd line assuming you have an All star RW as your 1st example Kessel

I'll give the guy some props, he vastly improved from last year and created some of his own points. That being said if he goes to a team who needs winger to feed passes to other players I say he is a 50-60 point winger.
Basically any team that signs him should look at him to fill a specific need and not sign him because he scored alot. Basically PAPs strength is left side boards on the PP, if you already have that guy, stay away
The Stars have a new owner, tons of cap room, and need a top 6 guy to go alongside Benn. With limited UFA options, I could see them offering PA a Hemskey/Rutuu type deal

I think there's always this fear of signing those late bloomers. I know if I was a GM it would make me nervous. I wouldn't want him here knowing the price is probably steep but more importantly because we are a high spender. A team like the Isles can roll the dice a little more because they have the cap space and he's proven he can do it there.
If ZP ends up with a caphit of 8.5 then he probably can kiss winning the cup good bye. He's a great player but it's going to be really hard to build a great team around him if his caphit is that high.
If I was the Islanders I'd offer max 3 years @ 4.5 million for Parenteau and if that's not enough I'd let him walk.
