I'm just going to say it... Conklin is the better goalie technically speaking. Too bad Conks lost that X factor so to speak (I guess you can call it a lucky charm in a way). Couldn't stop a puck even if he WAS in position. Add that to the fact that he faced horrible bounces while being unlucky and not playing well? Didn't help that he had no confidence. It was a train wreck.
MacDonald? The Red Wings and the fans are just high on him atm. His technique is horrible. His rebound controll is awful. The only thing he has going for him is that, for some odd reason, he's a better first shot goalie than Conklin (for now).
I want to be wrong, but I think MacDonalds Lucky horse shoe will soon run out...and we'll we'll have something worse than Conklin; if that's even possible.
On to the Wings. They are playing pretty bad. Zetterbergs line is doing everything they can... You can see that they are starting to get wore out, though. Hopfully they have about 5 more games of 150% left in them.
The Wings' guys all look like they'll be ready for the playoffs (except Eaves probably), but the Flyers have Pronger out for good and I'm not sure how long Timonen and Meszaros will be out.
I'm stuck watching the Philly feed on CenterIce - why does the announcer guy say something about Tastykakes after every goal?
Everytime a player on our team scores a goal, he gets to send Tastykakes to his favorite charity.
McDonald and Janik looked like crap on that goal, but the way the Wings turned over the puck in Flyers territory leading up to that play is symptomatic of the Wings are playing tonight.
Also, the Franzen Floater continues to play a rather aimless game.
He had a nice play where he skated over the blueline, cut to the center and seemed a bit like Beast-Mode Mule. But Beast Mode Mule would have been about 10-15 deeper and wouldn't have hesitated before shooting. The Franzen Floater Mode Mule just kept skating parallel to the goal line, hesitated before shooting, and it was deflected harmlessly wide of the goal.

Tastykake is also a sponsor of Philadelphia Flyers hockey broadcasts. During the Flyers' Stanley Cup appearances in the mid-1970s, the "goal call" of Hall of Fame announcer Gene Hart was, "He shoots, he scores - for a case of Tastykake!" A case of Tastykakes (18 to 24 Family Packs per case, depending on the product) was awarded to each Flyers player who scored a goal. In the early 2000s, a case of Tastykakes was awarded to the first Flyers player to score a goal in a game. As of 2008, and still awarded as of 2012, a case of Tastykakes is again awarded to each Flyer who scores a goal; it is donated to the favorite charity of that player.
Regarding the injuries, the official status of Timonen and Meszaros is that they're both out indefinitely, but speculation is it'll be about 2 weeks. Pronger's gone for at least the season, but most likely his career is over. JvR is officially out for 4-6 weeks, but most likely for the rest of the season and the majority of the playoffs because of his abdomen injury as well.

One of his own defensemen scores on him and he gives up a breakaway goal to the NHL's 3rd leading scorer and suddenly he's worse than the guy that couldn't stop a beach ball all season.

I agree on the Conklin-Jmac tangent 99% (disagree with the "can't stop the puck".) Conklin never lost us a game. The team lost and Conklin payed dearly for it, even when he had a good game (first game @Calgary comes to mind).

Gotcha. I live in the Baltimore-Washington area so I'm familiar with the product (note the correct spelling ), I just didn't know what the context was and out of context, it'd sound really dumb if they did some kind of ad after every goal and it wasn't a charity thing.
Isn't Philly stuck with Pronger's full cap hit even if he retires, since he signed a long-term deal after age 35? If so, ouch.
