Burke gets one more season (4.5 years total). No playoffs = No job

If fired, replace the entire management group.

Brian Burke will not be fired. However thinks it will ever happen don't know 1. What burke has done to the leafs prospect pool and team since taking over the team 2. Being in a position everyone thought they were going to be in.
If the Leafs miss next year maybe start looking but I'd expect the leafs to be in the playoffs with many of the young prospects in the lineup. If we tank this year it will actually be better than losing in the 1st round anyway. You can't fire burke when he just hired his first coach.... And before this losing streak people were calling him one of the best GMs in the league

Should Burke be fired.....not yet.

Lets see what he can do this summer for getting us some upgrades and purging of some contracts/players.

If he does not get some players this summer that are upgrades then we should considered it.

I will miss the sound bits.....if he is gone.

I'd like to see him get at least one more season. He's used his "get out of jail free" card with canning Wilson and now he has to know that the team must produce for him to survive. Burke's done a pretty good job stock piling some good looking prospects, now here's hoping he can get rid of some contracts and pick up something solid via trade cuz the UFA market looks pretty thin other than the obvious

I've always felt 2013 was his last year to make the playoffs, and I still feel that. 5 year rebuild baby... no 4 year ********. Got a defensive minded coach and you have players who can score, if we can't make the playoffs next year 100% guaranteed, then burke should just leave the second were eliminated in 2013.

Bell/Rogers must do everything to lure Ken Holland here. I know, I know... it probably wont happen but burkie has made so many mistakes and I really don't like the system that is in place.

1. what prospects? lol we don't have a single blue chipper or rising star in the ranks.

2. we thought we'd be out of the playoffs for 4 years WITHOUT tanking and doing a legit rebuild? noap

3. no, ron wilson was the first coach he signed - he signed him to a contract extension in december.

That was already tried before hiring Burke.

It's pointless to vote in the poll because this is the correct answer. Next season will be the acid test for Burke. If the Leafs miss the playoffs in 12-13, he doesn't get to fulfill the last year of his contract and gets fired.

I'm sure Burke knows this too, so I expect him to make major changes this summer.

The joke is that your topic is as much of a facepalm as your avatar, so it's fitting and hilarious.

and that's what scares me (Nash). Acquiring two veteran goaltenders (Nabakov and Vokoun - both UFA's) is the correct course of action IMO. Putting all of our eggs into either basket with Reimer or Gus as the backup isn't enough of a guarantee. It's time we solidify the one position that 's been our achilles heel since Quinn left.

His job was to make the playoffs as soon as possible. If he was brought in to build through the draft with high picks then I could stomach not making the playoffs. He has failed and should be fired.

He's been "okay"...as in, "we could have done worse" ... I think we do need a GM change.

I don't know in what world acquiring the ****** roster burke got that he doesn't get to do a 5 year rebuild. Your honestly ignorant if you think otherwise. I highly doubt there are more than 5 GM's that could of done a better job than burke. We were what calgary is now WITHOUT iginla and kipursoff, that's horribad in every single sense of the made up word.

Tallon did quite well with the Panthers and his one year rebuild.

Is there some sort of baseline performance that Burke has to be compared to, such as the GM of a 'small market U.S. team'.

If somebody had been hired with the mandate that they only spend to the cap minimum, not trade draft picks and make the draft picks that the team had earned... how much different would that outcome have been compared to what Burke did over the past 3-4 seasons?
