What are your thoughts? I think what we'll get for Schneider or Luongo will be a big help come playoff time, depending on the player..

This year for sure. We're already near the top of the standings, we are amazingly healthy with literally zero injuries costing guys games(According to AV Ballard doesn't actually exist so that doesn't count), have all the little pieces needed like checkers, pk guys, face-off specialists, depth on defence that is 9 deep, two great goalies...

No excuses we need to get this done.

Next year for sure. Hopefully in the off-season we have a big shakeup to our offense and bring in players who can score consistently and in the playoffs.

Next year, just because Cory is going to get traded for something significant.

Your hate for the Sedins couldn't be more concrete.

I'm banking on next year, too.

That's the last season of some sweet deals (Higgins, Edler, Burrows, couple others) and some key pieces like KB3, Sedins and Luongo might start declining afterwards so if Gillis wants to stack the team hard, that's when he will do it.

We probably won't have Schneider but we'll certainly get a useful piece in return. Lack will probably be ready for NHL duty, but push comes to shove GMMG will go hard after a serviceable backup.

I'm angry at all of our top 6 forwards. No one has been good enough.

I actually think AV should split up the sedins next time we face Dallas. They were clearly too slow on the back check and messed up the D. Doing this will bring more speed to the top line and even things out. Dallas has a very fast and skilled Top line.

Last season.

But in all seriousness it's just really difficult to make it back to the SCF after such a long season last year so I want to say next season once Luongo or Schnieder have been traded and there has been a bit of a shakeup in the D-core and Top 6. Perhaps this offseason we will get the #1 stud Dman we all desire?

Last season. Teams have gotten better. Because of our top line playing as it is now we are weaker than last year.

The team is better but Sedin's recent play (basically all of 2012 after Boston's game) has to be a concern. They haven't had a bad stretch like this in the regular season for years. Maybe they are getting the bad games out of the way for the playoffs (one can hope).

This season. You cant predict the state of the team next year, nor can you reasonably expect players that may be brought in to be as good as any departing core players we currently have...

That's what we'll likely be wanting in return for Schneider. Not saying we'll get these players, or they're good value, but defensemen like Victor Hedman, Luke Schenn etc. Guys that can have an impact now, and later.

But, we all expect Salo to retire at the end of the year, so a top 4 Dman is a must.

Plus, Gillis has to move Ballard out and say goodbye to Raymond. Ballard, have to take back a contract, so who knows how much money will be freed up.

But, what young prospects are ready to play?

Lack comes in as the backup goalie.
Tanev into the top 6 on the backend.

Ok, who else? Schroeder? Jensen? Sweatt in the bottom 6? Don't expect Sauve or KConn to be ready for NHL action full time next season. Call up, yes, but not going to start the season.

So say Jensen has a spectacular training camp and Schroeder beats out a UFA 3rd line center. Then you have the choice of keeping Schneider or Luongo and whoever leaves will yield a nice return. So let's see what happens to our forward group?

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows (stays intact)
Booth - Kesler - Kassian
Higgins - Lapierre - Malhotra or UFA grinder (or Bitz/Weise type)
Jensen - Schroeder - JVR/Johansen/PF

JVR/Johansen (+) traded for Schneider (+)/Luongo

So basically, we run a rookie line with Lappy's line taking most of the faceoffs.

Most hilarious 4th line ever.

If Luongo gets traded for cap relief, then next year. Otherwise, this year.

I'd hope that the Canucks could sign Parise and then move Booth and Luongo.

Would set them up nicely to take a run at another RFA (Weber )

I want to say this year, but I'm not sold on this defense at all. Also would like a playmaker on that 2nd line.

I'd like to see ideally a top 6 of:

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - RS, strong skating, physical, with a good first pass.
LS, shot blocking, smooth skating, with size - Salo
Rome, Kcon

For next season.

Tanev is going to be a full time NHL'er next season IMO, and Rome could very well be gone. Salo is a big question mark on top of this.

Tough call:

Do the Sedins bounce back or have they peaked?

Schneider/Lou for who?

I can't pick tbh, but I can't imagine Gillis is stoked with the team form. We have been rubbish for 2 months, masked by a winning streak, PP is trash, defensive breakdowns, etc.

One thing in this years favour is we know none of the teams in the west are better than us. We are not as good as last year but nobody has passed us, top 3 teams in the west are all about equal.

Rome will be back, AV loves him and he's a good 7-8. I'd like him out of the top 6 though. If Salo leaves I hope we move Ballard and Alberts out, that frees up $7m. Tanev full time 3rd pair and bring in a top pairing rs and 3rd pairing LS side.

If the Canucks get bounced from the playoffs this year due to pathetic scoring, and Luongo turns into the scapegoat and is dealt,
I will become a Jets fan. That would truly be disgusting to see and wouldn't be making the right players accountable.

Also you don't trade a player like Luongo for cap relief, especially given the sweet cap hit he has.
