Looking forward to seeing Ashton tonight. Hopefully it doesn't burn their final call up. To be honest, I would love to see Kadri play the final 17 games to see how he'd do under a new coach and to see if the time in the minors has helped his game.

I get the feeling there is really bad blood with Kadri and the Leafs right now and the reason the Leafs have no interest in bringing him up is because they know he's not part of their future.

Interesting Ashton was almost a Leaf earlier:

Quote:
According to former Lightning GM Brian Lawton in an article written for Sportsnet.ca, the Leafs offered to send defenceman Tomas Kaberle to Tampa before the 2009-2010 season trade deadline in exchange for Ashton and the teamís 2010 first pick, which turned out to be Brett Connolly. Lawton didnít want to stray from the teamís blueprint and convinced team owner Jeffrey Vinik not to go ahead with the deal.

ďEven though our team was right on the playoff bubble and desperately needed an offensive defenceman, I wasnít prepared to bail on what we were building through the draft,Ē Lawton wrote.

Lawton declined the offer presented by Dave Nonis and wound up getting fired 39 days later.

He has been sick (flu)with the Marlies and not playing as well lately. I think he'll make the team out of training camp next year (barring any weird additions and no movement from our roster) [very unlikely obviously]. He has that grit to his game where he will hit on the forecheck to make stuff happen. I'm sure Carlyle will say the same thing about Kadri he said about Kessel.. "When it's his turn to forecheck, I want him to forecheck, when it's his turn to back check I want him to back check".

Only difference is that Kadri will finish his hits to stay in the NHL.

Skinner? Definitely would have made up for losing Seguin.

Skinner?
In hindsight it'd be Skinner, but I think at the time maybe Austin Watson unless they were going to trade up with it and go for Johansen.

Don't recall Watson being rated that high.

Not surprising though as Burke has to shown off his latest.

The Marlies were playing great without Ashton all year, they'll miss him the least.

He played on the Wing with Colborne last Saturday. He was fast and gritty, quick on the forecheck, good along the boards, but also committed a 4 min highsticking penalty that lead to the winning goal for Rochester. Considering it was his first game, the chemistry wasn't there.

I would still go with the return of the Bruins trade but it is closer when you include Connolly.

Probably Skinner or Fowler. Might have taken Jack Campbell but would have traded down if thats who they wanted.

If he isn't taller than Chara he has no future on our team

Skinner was rated 32 I recall in some circles, Carolina's scouts really deserve credit for this pick. Hard to say who the Leafs would have picked, though I do have a lot of faith in Dave Morrison.

Kadri's a bum... when I watched him with the Marlies he cherry picked in the neutral zone and floated most of the game.

Don't think it has anything to do with disrupting Marlies chemistry, or giving Ashton a look, or bad blood with Kadri. Lupul is more or less a power forward, something that Kadri really isnt; even if he tries pretty hard to be one. It must have been down to Mueller and Ashton and ultimately they are gambling that Ashton has the better hands. If any one of kessel, bozak, connolly, grabovski, macarthur, lombardi get injured then I'd expect you would see Kadri.
