You really think PG didn't try to get more? He got the best deal he could. For all we know Nashville was the only team that wanted AK...
As usual, he put himself in a weak position. they did not play AK on any of the first two lines for almost a month and gave him like 10-14 moin. of play time per game.
Why trade him at 10 in the morning instead of waiting until 2: 59 p.m. ? Force nashville to sugar their offer, at least.
Devils didn't finish last. Had one of the best record in the second half.
Flyers started the season with Bob Clarke as GM. He was fired a month in.
Correct. And Holmgren made big moves in the off season going after Hartnell and Timonen while still being with the Preds. Signed them before July 1st and began rebuilding. Our GM isn't pro active
You have to put your secret decoder ring on to understand what Tremblay is saying (that is): "I have no media access to the organization, boohoo, so I'll make **** up about Gauthier's secrecy"

In regards to the Devils, they still had a very disappoint season.
And for the Flyers, I believe Clarke resigned and stayed on as President of the team and he made Holmgren GM, who was Ast GM at the time, I would say it was the same regime.
Senile old Tremblay, starting to rehash his ideas. Didn't he already write this article once? Or did he compare the Habs to the Nazis? Honestly I can't keep track of Rejean's alzheimer's anymore.

Again, the PT has nothing to do with PG. RC is trying to win games as best he can. If PG calls down and says, "Play AK more, we're hoping to get a sweeter deal for him at the deadline." If RC obliges, it would be pretty unethical to then fire the guy, and blame the firing on his record.
Coaches handle the lineup in order to give them the best chance to win. That's their job.
And maybe Nashville was looking at another player as well, and if Montreal didn't bite, we'd end up with nothing for AK, or a worse package from another team that didn't really want him?

See no evil, hear no evil...
Meanwhile, the team in on pace for it's worse results in 60+ years.
This season is a new low as far as the Montreal Canadiens are concerned anyone who thinks that any of this management/ coaching staff can survive is sorely mistaken...I HOPE!!!!
Some people just want to fire everybody because of this season, but it'd be a mistake to throw the baby out with the bathwater. With PG as GM, and with the talent we have on hand, I think there can be a quick turnaround much like Ottawa had this year. We just need to have a great draft/offseason and find our Paul Maclean...
If we fire PG then the wheels could really fall off this puppy...
Columbus, the worst team in the nhl didn't want him. He was packaged with a 2 rounder and Columbus still didn't want him. That tells you something....

No,
The rumour which was by Darren Dreger I believe, was he was packaged with a 2nd round pick for Derick Brassard, and the Jackets said no.
I gave the perfect example of Kaberle value using Zidlicky and the return he got for the Wild. Are you actually going to tell me that Zidlicky is better than Kaberle even with the the extra year and 250K more?

Who cares if Zidickly was able to be moved. No one wanted Kaberle and Rutherford found a sucker in Gauthier, the same way Sather found one in Gainey. Rutherford spoke out to media saying " I regret signing him". Doesn't that concern you? Boston didn't re-sign him.... He's past his prime.
Trading AK for a 2nd pick while Gaustad (another UFA) costed a 1st to Nashville is called bas asset management.
This trade is actually interesting
it was AK for a 2nd
and
Gaustad and a 3rd for a 1st
what i think about these trade is quite simple. If AK would have stayed in Montreal the trade would have been Gaustad for a 2nd. The problem for Nash: the 2nd was gone to Montreal and therefor not available for Buff ... And a first was too much for Gaustad.
Lets reverse the transaction and say that Gaustad was sent for a 2nd before trading with us. Montreal would have probably get a 1st for AK (since the 2nd was gone) and would have to add a 3rd or a 4th or a 5ft.
I dont like Gauthier, but i'm not going to say it was bad management, AK was worth as much as Gaustad, but when Buff called all the 2nd were sent in Montreal. it was just a question of timining rather than value.

still its a bad management assets, they shouldve waited a the trade deadline date. They traded him WAY too soon, at NOON instead of 3pm. Bad management Assets
lollll
I believe its a timing question.
minor corrections
Gaustad +4th for a 1st
AK for a 2nd + 5th

Gaustad and a 3rd for a 1st

that is why I'm saying that Gauthier should had kept his cards longer.
Same happened in the Halak's trade, and I would say also in the Cammy's trade.

Let the other team pay more.
well sometimes you can get burnt when you keep it too long.
Maybe NSH wasnt ready to pay a 1st for AK and could've skipped their turn after trading a 2nd for Gaustad.
Or they wouldve traded him for a 3rd and a 4th round pick for AK
This is almost the same exact article as when Réjean Tremblay made a comparison between the Habs and Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. I get that he's trying to make a point but he's comparisons are absurd and insulting at times.
I couldn't find the article I'm referring to but here's another article talking about it:

Buddy, we're last in the East. What does a GM have to do to be considered inept if being last in the Conference doesn't?

Gaustad +4th for a 1st
AK for a 2nd + 5th
I know
1st - 4th > 2nd + 5th
but its not that bad
sorry for the mistakes...
I just wanted to point out what could be the reason of the higher pick for Gaustad (which you understood) .
