Newstalk 1010 Interview: Burke hangs up, calls host "ignorant", "gutless"

http://www.newstalk1010.com/shows/mo...tryID=10356109

Looks like the big media pressure is starting to get to Burke...

I don't blame the host (John Moore) at all - a good interviewer doesn't give a "heads up" before a hard question.... this isn't sports radio after all..

I actually like Burke and am a fan of how he's building the team and the direction it's taking.

But I'm getting a little tired of this turning into the "Brian Burke Show".

It was a good interview but at the end the host asked Burke if instead of the coach, should the GM have been fired and that set Burke off.

Any exaggeration? Or did Burke literally call him ignorant and hang up? Wow lol.

Edit: Listening now

I didn't think the question was that bad to be honest.

hah

Heard that this morning. Was wondering why there wasn't a thread about it.

edit: Just listened to the actual interview. The Newstalk 1010 people were whining about it around 9AM this morning. Don't think Burke did anything wrong here. He just didn't say bye to the poor guy

this is a question that has probably been asked to every coach and every GM at some point in time..

the correct answer is: Thats not up to me, its up to the owners. My job is to make this team.... blah blah blah ... and that is what I'm concentrating on.

Ha, I guess a reaction like that from Burke answers that question?

I think it had to do with the way he asked it.

Seems like he and Burke had a quick briefing about what was going to be asked/discussed before the interview was conducted (which is VERY common in any public interview).

If this guy conveniently left that out when he went over it with Burke, which it kind of sounds like he did because Burke usually is able to handle tough questions and what not... plus his reaction... makes it all seem a little fishy.

NOTE: If you didn't listen to the interview don't comment, saying things like "WOW he freaked out about THAT?! He said THAT? LOL he hung up?"

Listen to the interview and then comment, or don't bother.

i think it was more than just that one question. there were a few other things that the interviewer brought up that likely lead up to him blowing up.

seemed that burke had to go defensive starting with the don cherry ontario issue.

Wasn't a gutless question but was deefintely a stupid and unprofessional one.

It was def a shot at Burke and Burke may have overreacted but who wouldn't.

Guy can laugh all he wants after but good luck getting Burke back on your show! hope it was worth it!

well come on. .. In this market, Burke is going to have to talk about the Cherry issue sooner or later. That last Coaches Corner segment was huge news... everybody's been talking about it.

i just heard the interview. Yes it was gutless in the sense that the host waited until the end of the interview before asking. And Burke insinuated that they talked about everything that was going to be asked beforehand.

EDIT: and Burke doesn't just 'hang up' as the OP suggested. It was the end of the interview. He just didn't say bye

no. if you listened to the interview the host said he never briefs his guests before interviews.

Burke senses the strong possibility of it all coming apart here in toronto(or more accurately, never coming together).

he knows he looks bad right now. that's the reason for the extra tension vs. the media.

Yeah I did. He could have taken the high road and offered a "no comment" Instead he calls a guy gutless. Classy.
