Vet stands on guard for his Jets

Here is the story from the Winnipeg Free Press, don't know if it warrants a thread but the story is pretty neat.

Fantastic story and certainly thread worthy. This is great stuff, and all apart of what makes Winnipeg a truly great hockey market.

Little (but really... big) things like this make me extremely proud to be Canadian.

He sounds like quite an active 93 year old. I doubt many at that age have the energy to go to every Jets game, regardless of the fact that he actually lives in Kenora. Wow.

In the CF, your not allowed to salute without wearing your head dress. So he's displaying proper military bearing.

Great story.

Nice story. In Toronto we have tons of vets at our games too. It's always great to see them come out and support the team still in their 90's/100's.

It doesn't matter who does/doesn't care, it is protocol for a veteran to salute rather than remove cap.

This is fantastic! Thank you so much for this! This guy is truly one of my heroes.

I was a Winnipeg Grenadier Cadet for 7 years growing up and we had many parades in honour of these exceptional Canadians. I love how passionate he is about the Jets too. Someone should get him a computer so he can become a member of these boards

I remember the first time they put him on the big screen. The crowd went nuts.

Now every game I'm hoping he gets on there.

Not that we need any more prodding, but if they show him on the screen during the anthem for the 1st playoff game, watch out. The crowd will go absolutely bonkers.

^ the last several games I have been at, he is always shown on the big screens towards the end of the anthem.

I am really glad they did this article - I was wondering what his story was. Driving to and from Kenora for games is impressive at any age, let alone 93.

Earlier in the season, I'm pretty sure he was featured in the In Flight magazine, the one the ushers hand out to you. Loved the bit in the story where it said Rick Rypien used to come by and give him the salute during Moose warm-ups.

I can't believe he drives in from Kenora.
I hope I'm that adventurous at 93

Great post sip........thx

I was at the first game when he hit the screen and the place went crazy......I got chills and I choked up when it happened. . I love the part about him getting nerves on game day . Before the Buffalo game during the afternoon at work I was mentioning to my buddy that i had butterflies and was getting nervous which is a first since nothing gets to me ........... 93 and you are driving 4 hours round trip for the home games and you fought in the war

Glad we have his name now maybe when can get a "lenny lenny" chant going one game!!!

I've been hoping for this story to come out. I love seeing him on the Jumbotron as games. I saw him in the concourse weeks backed and thanked him for his service.

Another great icon of the Jets 2.0 first season in Winnipeg. I look forward to seeing him on the big board every game. Just doesn't seem right if the game doesn't start with a little Lenny.

On a related topic, it was too bad that that couple celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary a few game back didn't get picked for the Smooch Cam.

Great story, brought a tear to my eye. Love how he smirks when "true north" is yelled.
