If Barkov were Canadian he would be considered as 1st overall. I've watched all games they played this and last season. I don't want to even think about the media circus that would've happened after he broke Crosbys record if he were Canadian kid.

EDIT: He's not only good defensively, hes remarkable for a kid of hes age. You gotta remember that hes playing in one of the worst teams at FEL, last time i did check like 70-80% of the players had horrid - rating and Barkov had +8 or something. Just checked it out, Tapparas 2nd highest scorer has 27 points and -19, so yeah that tells bit about Barkov's defensive play.

If Barkov can get his skating to where it was before the growth spurt, there is no way he doesn't go first overall. The best Finnish prospect EVER.

Right now MacKinnon ahead Barkov because MacKinnon has superstar +100pts potential. Barkov has best chance to challenge MacKinnon for 1 overall spot but needs amazing season because he plays in europe without much hype. He might fall outside of top 3 because he plays in europe.

If he were Canadian he never would have had the chance to break Crosby's record.

That kid from Belarus still has the record though, so there is no need to fight over that.

So what, if any, effect do you think Barkov having mono will have on his development? I've never had it myself but from what i've understood it lasts quite long (months?) and is there weight loss also? do you guys think he'll pick up where he left off development wise or will it take him a while to get back on track?

I love MacKinnon. He's already an incredibly impressive player.

Shouldn't make a great difference for an athletic guy like Barkov.
I expect him to absolutely demolish all Granlunds records next season.

How big is Seth Jones anyway? Hockeydb has got him listed as 6'3" which doesn't seem like anything special.

Also gotta love the no love for Ryan Pulock.

He is like a bigger, more skille, more complete version of Granlund.
Should be totally reasonable expectation even with weaker linemates.

I think Granlund is smarter and more skilled as of now.

Should he not be invited to the WC if he´s that good?

definitely but his out for the rest of the season. I could see him centering the 4th line but Finland usually goes with the vets.

Bold statements.

I consider Granlund to be a top 3 prospect worldwide right now.

A lot of posters that have seen him play, say that he's grown much more and that data is old.

I wouldn't say that Granlund is so much smarter than Barkov. Barkov is an 16 year old and can match 20 year old Granlund in decision making with the puck. Barkov can make incredible smart passes and plays. Barkov was the smartest player in WJC of team Finland. I didn't see any giveaways off him. Just very smart solid play. Granlund has that elite hockeysence which matches with best players in entire world. Barkov is not in that level.

More like Karlsson. Bad two-way forward.
