"The new iPad" (avail. March 16th) specs & discussion
The Apple launch event is now over. Apparently, they're calling the new iPad... "the new iPad." I don't get it, either. Anyways, it goes on sale March 16th, which is Friday of next week.
Here are the specs and details as they were announced:
2048x1536 screen resolution (264ppi)
Dual-core A5X processor with quad-core graphics (with 4x the performance of the Tegra 3, Apple claims)
40% better color saturation
5MP iSight camera with IR filter, auto-exposure and auto-focus (basically similar to that on the iPhone 4S)
Voice dictation via a microphone button on the keyboard (similar to existing 3rd-party Android keyboards)
73Mbps 4G LTE, 42Mbps DC-HSDPA and 21Mbps HSPA+. "Verizon, Rogers, Bell, Telus and AT&T will be the LTE partners"
10 hours battery life, 9 hours on LTE
9.4mm/0.37" thin, weighing 1.46lbs/662g
16GB is $499, 32GB is $599 and 64GB is $699
The Engadget live blog is over, but all of the updates and slides are still viewable. Lots more information was presented than just the above, especially software features, which I ignored (because I'm not an Apple user), so check it out if you're interested... http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/07/a...ad-3-liveblog/
didnt work for me, got stuck on 12:56 and wouldnt update. Im on a different site and it does essentially the same thing constant live blogging without refresh
Definitely sold on it. Had my Ipad 2 stolen a month ago and have been waiting to see whether or not I should wait and upgrade, or just go back to the Ipad 2, but Im definitely upgrading. Remarkable

There's quite simply nothing that touches the iPad on the market. Software was far and away number one, and the hardware introduced today is just awesome. I'd like to see Samsung try and copy 9 hours of battery with a 2048x1536 screen on LTE now.
If it wasn't a no-brainer to get an iPad as a tablet before, it is now.
It's the best tablet available, but it's not a no-brainer for those unwilling or unable to spend $500 on one. Nothing is likely to change. Those who were willing to pay up for an iPad before will do so now and those who weren't still won't (and will continue to flock to the Kindle Fires and ASUS Transformers of the world).

I think that you're neglecting that Apple uses the same hardware manufacturers that its competitors do. Anything that Apple has will soon be available for the competitors to buy, as well.

1 - megapixels mean nothing. Clearly you don't know this.
2- There is a 2048*1536 resolution on this one.
Then why was Apple advertising the megapixels on the new iPad?
Seriously, go buy one if you want one. It's a great product in most ways. I am not trying to convince you to buy something else. I was just saying that I won't be buying one.

Yeah, the only thing that Ill miss about the Ipad 2 is the fact that I had it jailbroken. I think I'll get over it quite quickly once I see the screen

Apple highlighted the megapixels, but focused primarly on the optics (the same optics as the iPhone 4S - that's what truly makes a camera. You can have an 8MP camera and still take ****** photos if the lens isn't up to snuff).
I'm not trying to convince you otherwise as well - just that I don't think this screen (2048x1536, 264 PPI) can be compared to anything else on the market right now.

Yeah, the playbook apparently had better DPI than the ipad2, but 264 is really impressive.
