Chara or Weber when talking all-around.

Try and think about this objectively but how many GM's in the league do you think take Karrlson over Weber right now??? Not many in my opinion. Maybe none.

I agree. I think him and Suter are 1, 2 and I voted Weber but if I actually had to pick one for my team it would be tough. Suter is just so smooth, he makes everything look effortless and he is rock solid defensively.

I think Karlsson makes the Bruins a better team than Weber would. Honestly.

They've got the roughest team in the league but for 20-25 minutes of the game they put a guy on the ice from the back end worth 70-90 points in any given season?

People like to ignore that Weber plays alongside a guy that could win a Norris in his own right.

As much as I would love to have Karrlson on the Bruins no way I pass up Weber playing with Chara. Those two together would be amazing.

Chara does not deserve it. He simply hasn't been good enough.

It's between Weber and Karlsson. Reputation shouldn't but will play a large role in Norris voting. For that reason, I think Weber will win it.

That being said, I still believe Karlsson has been the best defenseman in the league this season. Whether or not that will amount to a Norris trophy remains to be seen.

The image of it is amazing. But you can't say you know which one makes the team better.

You could be adding 30 more points to your team that doesn't have a high end offensive presence on the back end. Breakout passes to Tyler Seguin through the neutral zone?

There's a debate to be had there. People are in their infancy of understanding what Karlsson brings to the game...seriously, it's funny to watch as everyone confirms, two years later, what we've been saying forever. You'd think we were from the south or something

I voted for Weber, but if guys like Green, EJ and Doughty are in the conversation, Edler should be as well.
As should Timmonen.

Karlsson should win it but i have my doubts.
reguardless of all the size, age and stat arguments he is this years best D by far and he tends to be undervalued alot.
Many others have had or are still having great years BUT not like Karlsson this year and i would hope he wins it for doing what others have not THIS year.
It seems too many won't let go of his age as if he needs to earn it with afew more years.....well nope he is ahead of the rest and like it or not there is no better THIS year if he was a minus then sure but again nope.

Any GM with a brain would see Karlsson has natural talent not easy to find in the NHL and as the game becomes more speed and skill it will continue to grow so to those who believe that GM's would pass that up are fools.

Think about it:
There are 2 D's available at one moment for one year at the same salary:
1. Chara (Weber)
2. Karlsson
How many GMs would choose 2nd option over 1st? I would say not many.

chara or weber, but voted weber, and I'm a Bruins fan... 34 people have voted for karlsson already.... it's a best defensmen poll, not best player poll... he's useless on D

MacLean considers Karlsson "near the top of the middle third" of NHL defensemen as a one-on-one defender. "But at the start of the year," he adds, "you would have put him in the bottom third."
Useless defensively? He leads Dmen in takeaways for crying out loud. And before I get accused of pushing him as a top defensive player, I'm not, but there's clearly defensive value there.

Just wow at Karlsson being ranked ahead of Chara...

The only two currently in the discussion are Chara and Weber. Lidstrom is next.

I don't think you realize this is the 2011-2012 season Chara hasn't been his best this season, It is between Weber and Karlsson. Lidstrom is not next try Letang, Petroangelo, Sutter, Chara.

he is not very good in his own end AT ALL. Would love to see a stat for blown coverages or failed attempted takeaways.

Chara had a month stretch where he has truly struggled and looked tired. He seems to have been better lately and was fantastic earlier this year. I would still take a tired chara over karlsson, in the defensive end, any day of the week.

Karlsson's ability to make good plays in his own zone is truly underrated. I have no fear when Karlsson is in the ice, cause more than likely he is going to get the puck up the ice on a teammates stick. It's a part of defensive zone play that is completely overlooked and an area which Karlsson excels. But if you rather have a "defensive defensemen" who wraps the puck around the boards for a break out (just a temporary fix as it often goes to the opposing team) then so be it.

The bold is what other fans critical of Karlsson's defensive game don't appreciate. They seem to think he's some kind of liability out there...I'm always perfectly calm when he's on the ice and facing other teams' top lines.

He does a very good job with it.
