If the Sharks were to partially rebuild

First off, this is not a panic thread. Just an honest valuation thread.

Simply a what kind of returns could we get for different players if they were to be made available thread.

Some of us feel the Sharks are mired in a losing system. We have good players, but they do not fit together well. We would like to get faster and younger and we are going to have to sacrifice some beloved players to accomplish that. To get a better idea of what we are looking at, I would like to hear what other fans would offer for some of our players.

I am only going to restrict a few people from the list as I am certain they are not available under any circumstances and I know this thread will get totally muddled with "Give us Couture!" posts otherwise.

Not available:
Couture
Burns
Vlasic

That is it. Anyone else is fair game (though remember, several of those guys have NMC and will likely not waive, but offer away anyway). I am not proposing trading all of these players, I am simply curious where the most value would lie at this point.

So what would offers be for:
Thornton
Marleau
Clowe
Pavelski
Boyle
Murray
Demers
Niemi
Greiss
etc...

Sharks would be looking ONLY for 2012 picks, high end prospects, and young players. We would not likely be trading any of our current prospects or picks (as that is counter productive) unless it was a direct upgrade (our first for your first).

So, which players would garner the biggest returns?

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS AS A FLAME THE SHARKS OR THORNTON THREAD. Thank you.

Sharks have always lacked the scoring depth. Other than their top 3-4 guys, they don't get much offense. More depth on the 3rd and 4th lines plus the back end would get them over the top. Proving they could beat the Wings the last couple years in the playoffs shows they are close. I would not blow up that team.

thornton and marleau are sharks for life, i would of included them in the untouchable catagory.

i also feel as though we need to get more physical. physical play is key in the west.

i have no problem trading pavelski. id try and send him to nashville for wilson+Ellis+1st.

boyle+murray to philly for schenn+couturier

havlat to edmonton for curtis hamilton+teubert

niemi to tampa for aulie+2nd 2013

future roster

marleau-thornton-wilson
clowe-couture-couturier
c.hamilton-schenn-f.hamilton
desjardins-viedensky-wingels

vlasic-burns
petrecki-ellis
aulie-demers
teubert-braun

starter
greiss

goalies are very easy to get in FA, i like this teams forward corps alot, and the d is a good combo of pmd and dfd.

Pavelski and Demers to Long Island for our 1st round pick this year (top-10). If it's top-5 then Bailey, Matt Donovan (great defense prospect), and a 1st in 2013.

EDIT: That second offer is actually pretty low for those two, what would you want from the Islanders for Pavelski and Demers?

I covered that. I want to hear the values, I'm not saying anyone is available. No need to be defensive.

I doubt you'd get that kind of return for Boyle/Murray or Pavelski. Especially with Nashville facing the possibility of their two franchise defencemen leaving.

Pavelski is likely not available first, but if he were traded we'd be looking for a pretty big return. He's one of the top defensive forwards in the league who puts up 60+ points and 25+ goals for $4m.

You would have to include your 2012 1st, there is just no discussion otherwise imo.

Pavelski and Demers for 2012 1st, Bailey, and Justin DiBenedetto? Sorry if I'm way off, I actually want Couture but he and Tavares don't get along.

getting pavelski likely assures suter sticks around, and that could also convince weber to stay once he experiences the success bound to come with pavelski

boyle is a top pmd, and the top pp qb in the league, and murray is the perfect partner for him. i think philly would do it, it would guarntee them the cup

It's in the ballpark. I still doubt Pavelski is traded, he's part of the solution, not the problem. But speaking theoretically, yah, that's in the realm I would think (depending on the 1st of course, where it lands).

Good luck with that one.

I'm not even a Flyers fan, but that seems ridiculous.

Ya. I am looking for other teams fans opinions, not Sharks fans. I will please ask Sharks fans to not get defensive about this stuff.

Well it's most likely going to be a top-10 pick. What would just Demers be looking for?

I dunno, he's a tough sell because of his lousy season. Probably smarter to hold onto him and hope he returns to last years form next year. I bet if he's traded it's as part of a package only.

Right now we'd be lucky to get a 2nd for him and that's really not worth it.

What would be the asking price for Greiss? Does he have potential to be a starter?

That's pretty bad. Value is probably close as a cap dump, but with Eberle and Hemsky at RW, we have no use for Havlat or his big contract.

2nd probably, he only has a year on his contract (though you could likely easily re-sign him if you wanted to, I doubt he'd be looking for FA). Yes he could be a mid level starter, does not have high end potential. He's solid though and reliable.

Terrible. Schenn is a pylon. The 1st is a mid round pick. Tyler Bozak is Tyler Bozak.

If Pavelski were available, Buffalo would be very interested. We have 2 1st rounders, 2 2nd rounders, and lots of good wingers.

I'd start with:

Ennis, Pysyk, and Nashville's 1st for Pavelski

Well Boyle has a lot more value than Murray obviously, so that's a tough one.

Boyle I would think would get a fairly substantial return, he is still a hell of a player.

For Havlat I'd have interest in Bailey, beyond that I'm not sure.
