The Leafs need a better bottom 6 if they want to get into the playoffs. They don't have a line they can match against other teams top scorers. Adding top end talent might look good to the fan base, but it's the grinders and energy guys that need to be better.
The Leafs should target players like Kelly, Langenbrunner, Samuelsson this off season. However the fan base will be rabid that they want a star. They might get it, but until the bottom 6 is more defensively aware, the leafs will continue to miss the playoffs.
It's amazing that Burke couldn't see it, when you and some others clearly saw this soft non compete team would eventually crash and burn.
i think burke being inactive at the deadline indicates that he knew his team wont make the playoffs, so to divert the attention of the media and to cool off the fans, he fires his buddy pal wilson, by firing wilson hes used up his "get out of jail card" and next year the pressure will be on him to make the playoffs or hes good as gone, i hope he just doesnt do anything stupid with our first round pick ie trade it for rick nash lol
why? keep burke, he has not done anything to improve this team, in 4 years. prospects any GM would of drafted players, yet to play in the NHL. grabo, fratten, kulimun, gunnersson, riemer, schenn were not his picks.
1st year he could of drafted higher, he went and got a goalie to move up in the standings, got kadri, which looks like will never play here.
2nd, got kessel, gave up a 2nd overall that year,(sequin) plus a second.
3rd gave up a 1st, again for kessel, top defenceman.
in between all those years bad ufa signings.
this year could get a top pick, but wants to make the playoffs.
team is to soft, not big enough, no center,no goalies
4 years , for this mess, thank god the priviouse manager drafted some good picks, and traded for some good players , burke needs to use, to keep this team in the NHL.
THIS IS THE TEAM BURKE HAS PUT TOGETHER IN 4 YEARS, DONT LOOK AT THE PROSPECTS, ANY GM WOULD OF DRAFTED PLAYERS TO.

you know you're in trouble when you've got a undrafted college "free wallet" centering your top line and the second line is joke with lambo and the tinman
steckel only good at faceoffs

I can only hope that our prospect pool will be able to produce some good NHL talent for the future, especially the tough players we've got. Burke's shown that he can make some good trades as well. However, I absolutely sympathize with people who are having trouble keeping up hope. It almost seems like the team's cursed and nothing ever seems to work out as we hope it will (and it's not like we've had super high expectations all this time, mostly just wanting to make the playoffs).

How many more threads do we need regarding how the leafs have sucked is 5-7 not enough? We are going to continue to suck all the way to the bottom of the pack this year and if you can't deal with it find another team to cheer for or take a break from watching them. Everyone wants to win but it will not happen anytime soon and sometimes you have to take a step back to make a leap forward.
Brad Ross is going to be a very good player in the ilk we need now, Nilson in Sweden oh boy, Gransburg a beast on D , Biggs etc etc
This year we may get another chance at a top 5 and by trading a D we could get another first...
This and our high 2nd will go a long way to filling our prospect pool to elite status...
Keep the picks this year and get another first please...
I'm hoping we can hit a home run with our high 1st but i hope you know everyone else has draft picks as well . Tampa for example has 2 1st and 4 2nds this year .

Silly Tampa, stockpiling all those picks and they've drafted Stamkos, Hedman. Just wait until July 1st
It is crazy. I would love to see a lottery pick and do this thing right. As a said, I really don't think Burke can take the pressure here and is going to crack soon.
Really, the franchise is the laughing stock of the NHL.
Oh please.
The laughing stock? Really?
We have 13 cups, every game is sold out, our franchise is the most popular and valuable in the entire league.

We even have our own song.
Other teams could only wish to be the Leafs.

Sure we're down now, but it's just a part of our History. Can't wait until 2017 when we're 100. Coincidently the NHL will be a 100. You just know every team will be wearing a centennial patch....saluting us ofcourse
Next year, the Leafs will be in the playoffs thanks to a combination of moves Burkey will make to shore up goaltending, secondary scoring and quality defense. Considering that the farm system didn't even exist when he came in, Burke has done a mighty fine job setting up this team for some semblance of success in Toronto. His time here is going to be a lot like his time in Vancouver - setting up the foundation and watching the dividends pay off many, many years from now.
Sounds a bit like last year...err every year

100 years in existence.
The last 50 years without a cup. Half of the franchise' existence a complete failure.
13 cups, but all coming in ancient history, most of which when the league had 6 teams.
Face it, this team is an embarrassment.

In terms of profit we're the envy of the league, in terms of team management we're the laughing stock of the entire league. Boasting about championships that happened almost 50 years ago is embarrassing. Take note Habs fans, as 1993 is quickly becoming a distant memory.

You see, this is the sort of nonsense that makes the Leafs fan base such a laughing stock around the NHL. Come on, man. The last of those Cups was won almost 50 years ago now. And the sold-out crowds and cash are just used by other fans to show how stupid Leafs fans are.
They've got a point, too. Why on earth would anyone shell out good money for this crap year in and year out? Don't give me the loyalty answer, either, as that just makes you look like more of an idiot, like you keep going back to the same alleyway to get robbed by the same guy because you like the color of his jacket and mask.
