I've never been dismissive of this kid. He's young, he's got some skills, he just needs to put it all together. That game against Toronto was by far his best in the NHL so far. I'm sure he's gonna have his ups and downs in the next year or so, but patience is necessary. Marchand was not always a Top 6 forward, and look at him now.
He has elements of both Rex and Bergy, I don`t care, the kid is 21 and already has the kind of 3 zone maturity other 21 year old`s dream about, it`s just about putting it all together consistently and for us fans/Mngt/Coaches being patient with that
Geez, I was typing just as Bruins4Ever was, maybe were the same poster
This kid is looking great, he's got size skill and grit. I really hope he turns out to be as good as Bergeron
Caron and Bergeron have some similarities, but Patrice is a singular talent, to put it mildly. I'll be happy with Caron if he simply lives up to his own potential.

I could see him being a Bergeron type player, but not sure he'll have the offensive ability. I coudl see him turning into a player very strong on the boards, wins a lot of one on one battles, fantastic PKer, incredibly intelligent, decent skater etc.
Considering Bergy plays center and Caron will likely always play the wing, I think its hard to gauge him "being as good as Bergy," but I think the defensive/intelligence part of the game could be a good comparison. I'm again not sure he'll ever have the offensive output of Bergy. IMO he'll be between 40 - 60 points every year, and never over.
Now if we could only get Hamill to develop into a play making center.
That ship has sailed most likely.
I wouldnt be opposed to re signing him to a one year two way deal, but most likely whatll happen is he wont be tendered a contract. Mostly for his own sake I'd imagine...he has literally no chance at getting into this top nine, especially since Spooner and Knight are going to be up full time next season.
Hey guys i had a feeling after PC was including Caron in trades and after we didnt trade him i had a feeling he would make all of the teams that didnt think he was good enough regret a horrible decision they made. Caron has a bright future and he knows it but now many other people see it yet.
Man if Caron turns into a legit NHL'er a LOT of us will be eating crow. I'll be one of them. Hope he keeps up his new found confidence. Can he get into enough games in the regular season to get his name on the cup if we win it all again?

Hes played 32 games this year, and likely will play the remainder (if he plays like this), so of course he will. When Horton comes back itll be tough tho.

You say that now, but what happens when Pouliot pots two goals tonight and Caron goes back to being invisible?
You have to take a calculated approach to this, IMO Caron wont be playing if everyone is healthy (hopefully he proves me wrong, because that means he dominated the rest of the season).

Neither will Pouliot. But I doubt that Horton will be back, so I think it's safe to say that Pouliot remains in.

Pouliot has a back track history of being invisible for long stretches and was moved around for a reason....
On the other hand Caron is getting better every game he plays and his upside is much greater in my opinion.

Even if everyone else is healthy, one of Caron or Pouliot is going to play. Both have looked better than Rolston has since the deadline.
I go back and forth on whether I want Caron on the Bergy line so they aren't carrying an anchor again (and a less skilled anchor at that) or keep Pouliot-Kelly-Caron together knowing that Horton isn't likely to be back and getting that line some chemistry before the playoffs.
I'm counting on nothing from Horton until he's already back and producing. That was his third concussion in under a year. Your "when" is very much an "if."

Talk about stagnating when mentioning Pouliot.
Yeah but what if he "stagnates" like Pouliot the rest of the season? Remember...Caron was beaten out at the beginning of the year by Pouliot, who knows how the rest of the year will go.

Clearly the whole point of this discussion with chsb is based on the assumption Horton comes back, which I "know" is an "if."
Thank you for that tho Dojii, we can always count on your smug tone.

Agreed.
My point was however, should we all be HEALTHY, like i noted above, Caron would be the odd man out. This is typical overrating of young players. Caron has had his two best games as a Bruin the last two games, he'll come back down to earth eventually, all young players do.
Is this me wishing he comes back down to earth? Absolutely not...he just hasnt proven to be a reliable option yet with his 10 points in 32 games, thats just a fact.
Pouliot or Caron can split time with Bergeron/Marchand if Horton is out.
This is how I see it as well if everyone is healthy.
If Caron and Pouliot keep being underwhelming, wouldnt you think Julien would prefer a speedy vet who can kill penalties very well and play point on the PP? I think so.

On the flip side, I feel like they would be more inclined to hitch their wagon to Caron than Pouliot if Caron continues to play well. You might say we are overrating Caron, but the team started him with Bergeron and Recchi in Prague.
