And I absolutely agree that as a team you dont want a guy like Kronwall fighting, BUT, if you're gonna act like a bull then you should at least follow through like a bull.

He could at the very least make it look like he would fight, but he always immediately skates away as if the other team has no right to be upset that he just left their teammate unconscious on the ice.
They may have a right to be upset (although they may not be justified if the hit is clean), but that still doesn't force Kronwall to fight.

An angry philly fan found a way to publish an article I see. Want some cheese to go with that whine of yours, philly fans?

If you see your teammate laying unconscious with blood pouring from his mouth then you are always entitled to be upset whether the hit was clean or not

I guess you can be upset. But if the other dude doesn't want to fight then you should put a pacifier in your mouth and save everyone the whining. And if the hit was clean and your teammate is on the ice, it's an unfortunate situation but punching the dude who did nothing wrong isn't gonna help matters.

Hitting is part of the game. Fighting is illegal: it gives you a five minute penalty. A player is never "forced" to commit a penalty. If players don't like that they can join another league.

If anyone can name a player who has thrown this many big, predatory hits without one (1) career NHL fight, I'd like to know it, even just for trivia.

I'll be watching the thread to see if anyone can, because I'm stumped. Kronwall is lucky he doesn't play in any other NHL era.

lol That is what I am saying. No he doesnt HAVE to fight but he should take it upon himself to do so. If you wanna play the role of a tough guy who hits to hurt, then you better be a tough guy who is willing to stand up for himself when you do in fact hurt someone. A very large percentage of NHL players know this. That is why you quite often see someone who hurt a guy with a big hit in the previous game fight the next game. Kronwall thinks he is immune to that.

You dont think Weber or Chara could step up and obliterate everyone if they wanted to?
Now he can actually read minds.
He knows other players thoughts, that they don't hit out of a kind of respect.
Sorry, but you are completely clueless.
Your article and all of your posts reek of an intense hate of Kronwall and complete lack of knowledge of the game.

I'm neither, and love the Kronwall hit parade.

He does it right, he does it clean, and it's brilliant how on top of the great hit, he often creates a power play for his team.

Wish we had a guy like him on the Canucks.

You are absolutely right to bring that up. Most players feel responsible to take it upon themselves when they hurt a guy with a big hit. You can almost see them feel bad and understand completely that they might have to follow it up with a fight.

What drives people nuts about Kronwall is that he doesnt seem to think he fits under that category.

That's like saying that you shouldn't take a shot when you have a great scoring opportunity due to the goalie being out of position. Should you instead wait until he is in position, minimizing your odds for a goal/good hit?

Makes no sense.

No, he shouldn't.

His job is to do what's right for his team, and that means not fighting.

Explain to me why then Kronwall is the only player in today's game with this many huge hits? Is he just that much better than everyone else? Don't think so. Its because he's the only one that constantly seeks them.

As for hate of Kronwall. I think he is an elite NHL defenseman with or without his hits. This is hockey, I'm a better human being than to hate someone that I dont know because of what they do in a hockey game.

Since when does being a hitter automatically make you have to be an enforcer.

The hole argument if youre going to play tough you should be willing to throw is bizzare. You can play a good solid all around game including throwing big checks without being a fighter, nothing morally wrong with that. Hes not going around antagonizing guys and backing away like kaleta. Hes playing good hard hitting defensive hockey. Hitting is a part of that, fighting doesnt have to be.

Its so annoying how so often in todays game every time someone lays out a big clean hit that guys go after them, coaches would always tell us to "take his number". Then next time your out against him if you get the chance you give him a solid check too. Not late or anything cheap, but give him something to let him know your there. instead someone goes and tries to jump the hitter and force him into a fight.

I understand players wanting to stick up for their teammates. and thats fine, i dont have a problem with guys going up to kronwall and giving him a shove, asking him to go, but theres no way he should have to oblige and drop the gloves. thats what the enforcers are for.

Come on man. A shot on net isn't going to potentially end a guys' season or even career. That is a poor comparison.

For the same reason Stamkos is the only player in today's game with this many goals - they're both extremely good at what they do.

You might find that annoying and I can understand that, but the fact remains. That is what happens in hockey and mostly all of the players know it.

Hockey has always been a sport where players are held accountable. And while that certainly doesnt mean someone like Kronwall HAS to fight after he makes a big hit, as an NHL player he should know that thats what happens.

There are countless examples of players who arent fighters and guys who I'm sure didnt want to fight, but knew they had to. Hell, there are numerous guys under 6-feet that have stepped up when they knew they had to.

Forgive me and point out where I'm wrong, but is your argument Kronwall is the only predatory hitter in NHL history without a fight because he's one of the most unique players in NHL history?

Fair enough. I never really saw Kronwall as that unique a player, not even a hall of famer.

lol if that was true then Kronwall would have won multiple Norris Trophies by now. There are many defensemen that could hammer guys every night, but dont.

good point. Not only does he rock the **** out of someone, in the same sequence he gets a PP. Obviously he should fight to offset all that awesomeness

Indeed. Andrew has seemingly been implying that many defensemen are capable of consistently delivering these bone crushing hits but that they choose not to. The difficulty of routinely reading the play and connecting fully square on is being overlooked here.

Scott Stevens had over 80 NHL regular season fights. This guy either means another Scott Stevens or never saw Scott Stevens of Capitals, Blues and Devils fame play.

I wasn't aware that the Norris trophy was strongly based on hitting ability. I guess I haven't watched enough of Lidstrom and his bone-crushing hits.
