I guarantee nobody has a lower "winning the puck battle" percentage over the same period of time either.
He's scared to get hit, doesnt really fight for the puck... and the odd time he does show emotion he waves his stick around like an axe hacking guys - and gets a penalty
He can not do all that, and still get 71 points? He must have some serious skill! Anyways congrats to phil!

It would be nice if these people calling him lazy and soft could just get thread banned. With this fail of a season there is one thing positive and these ****ers have to be negative about that too.

Cant win eh? While the Leafs are disappointing as usual, you're right. Phil has been consistently good all season long. Not sure he is lazy...soft?...hard to argue.

He deserves what he gets.....I say that Burke should petition the NHL to allow him to wear a Red Jersey during all games so that no one would be allowed to hit him.....similar as you would do for an injured player.
He is not soft....he is terrified to be on the ice!
This is a team game by the way....and his contribution to the game is goals and running for fear....goals are nice but when you are a huge liability the goals are not worth it.
congrats, Kessel! i really hope he can get to 82 - there's a huge difference between PPG and anything short of it, and i remember semi-jokingly suggesting it in some sort of 'what would you like to see this season' thread earlier this year (as opposed to him just getting 40 goals.)
The one poster said he doubts theres a player in the league who wins less puck battles and the next poster said Pat Kane. This had absolutely nothing to do with whos having the better season offensively.

Yeah you're right. I'm not going to argue that point - He is extremely skilled. I just wish he had heart / be brave enough to battle for the puck.... with that he could be an elite player.

QFT I don't know what people are so thrilled about. Woohoo, the Leafs have one of the softest, most one-dimensional scorers in the NHL, who embarrassingly bails out when he's about to get touched about a dozen times a game. Congratulations!
Kessel's stick stuff actually reminds me of the much-hated Tom Kurvers, who bailed out all the time going into corners and just waved his stick. He was Kessel at the other end of the ice. American, too. Funny.

Imagine what Kessel could do if he drove to the net, instead of bailing all the time and giving up the puck or firing some absurd wrister from 60 feet. He could be one of the best forwards in the game, a modern Mogilny in his prime. But he settles. It's kind of sad, really. He'll put up some good individual numbers for five or six years, but never be anything on a winning hockey team, unless he's a deadline addition to a powerhouse.
What about the CONGRATS FOR LETTING 63 Regular time goals KEssel.. They guy can score but he can't play defensively. I dont want that on the leafs. I hope Brian Burke trades him soon... praying he does.
Sedin sisters are softer, more cowardly, less physical, win less puck battles, and put in less defensive effort than Kessel. They are better because there are two of them, imagine giving Kessel a clone to play with... it wouldn't even be fair for opponents. Yet they are universally praised by Canuck fans, and Kessel is constantly thrown under the bus by our fans.
It is what it is folks... he's no Jarome Iginla PWF, but he's an ELITE scoring winger who can create his own shot and evolved into a great passer as well this year. Remember what its like not having one of those (hint hint... the Sundin era Leafs).

But they're not that soft. The Sedins aren't exactly heavyweights, but they go into the corners and play a damn good cycle game. They will take hits and be bounced around to make plays and generate scoring chances.
Kessel? Not so much. I don't know if I've ever seen the guy in the corners.
