I think Bylsma may have a new problem when it comes to his lines:
Sully+Staal+Dupuis = Staal is an offensive force.
You know, I'd almost be tempted to go with Kunitz-Sid-TK and Cooke-Geno-Neal and then just do some random line stacking.
I said a couple of days ago I didn't see how one could break up Sully-Staal-Duper . . . still think that way.
Side note: Not thrilled at all with Kunitz-Geno-Neal the last few. Kunitz is in another of those stretches where there's too much watching and too little moving of the feet and anticipating. And, I'd really like to see a little more from Neal, and not just in the goal scoring department. I think Geno's been fine. Offensively, he's creating chances. Defensively, I actually liked his game and awareness a lot (getting back on the PK in what could have been a pair of bad situations and then tying up Kessel in the waning seconds).
Grabovski should never have got that money. I think Staal will get around 5-5.5 next contract. I mean Grabovski is a decent player but probably should have been in the 4 range.
I said on the GDT that it'll actually all be up to Sid.
Yep, Geno will expect and take whatever Sid gets. If it's 'less', then that means Geno takes 'less' and Shero then has the $$$ to give Staal a big raise that's still significantly less than he'd get on the open market. I think 6M is the magic number for Staal, because if he ever hits free agency, I think someone pays him 7M+.

Said it yesterday in the Sid thread; there is no way you change that line. It makes good use of Sullivan and Dupuis and contributes to making Staal a monster.
This of course is not a problem .

Yes, that would be it exactly .
Minus of the game..... first line. That's a peculiar thing to even write after this long stretch of sustained awesomeness.
Staal's line was epic and it was great to see Thiessen be strong at the close to get another win.

Saw that and you are right on!! I think longer term for JS just may be justified if not for injury concerns!! He looks like a different player than before!!
5M for 7 years for Staal. First few years it's a high number, then lowers off.
You're not even close. The magic number is 6M or slightly less IF you're lucky and Staal is accommodating. I'm telling you, a 25 year old Staal hits the open market, and someone is offering 7M per for up to 15 or 16 years on a front loaded deal.

Main board says 2 - 2.25 mil / year. After all, he is a 3rd line C

I agree!! You get him at $5M you get it for as many years as you can!!

This is probably total blind devotion and homerism, but there's something special about this group of players. Mario is and will always be my hero, but I was never as enamored with that group of players as I am with these guys, even during the championship years.
I can ****ing totally see Sid asking specifically for $7.1M a year deal, just to set the table for Geno and the rest of them. Getting them all together and say "We're already all rich, so do you want to just get richER, or dominate this League for the next ten years."
++ Really impressed with Asham tonight when he was on ice.
Jordan Staal is beast mode good right now!! If Grabvoski got $5.5M what is JS worth???
In regards to Staal, unless they put him on either Sids or Geno wing, you cant pay him the $5.5M to be 3rd line Center. You need that money for other players unless they can dump Martin an Zbynek.

If Crosby, and Malkin sign 7.1M deals for long term, i'd bow down to them on a "Shero" level. I may have to stay on my knee's a while.
Crosby/Malkin 7.1
Staal 6
A few 5M wingers
Neal 5M

Yeah, but one factor you have to consider is the Players Association. They HATE, and very much frown upon, when players accept deals below market value to accomodate the cap (considering the union despises any type of firm cap). Hometown discount is one thing, but taking a 2 m per year cut is quite another.
