I have to say not being sellers at the trade deadline, if 5 1st rounders were on the table and we got none and are missing the playoffs, that is bad. Going into the draft with chips to play and capspace would have been prudent, now we have 5.5 less to play with and only 1 1st rounder.
Gardiner sticking with the club was a gutsy move pushing out not just Keith Aulie, but sitting down guys like Komisarek, Schenn and Franson. Not a popular move with the dressing room I'm sure, and you could say "well Gardiner gave them no choice" but lets be real, no matter how good he was, it is a hard decision to say "yeah this rookie who we could let develop as the no. 1 defender on the Marlies will start tonight; sit down the $4M guys."
A lot of people are saying the draft pick, which is curious considering the leafs haven't made a great draft pick in a very long time. I voted for other because I think the best thing they have done was before the season started when they signed Franson.
i never really considered the leafs trading there 1st round pick so... RW anyway tho, this team is going to be bigger and stronger just like we want to see.

I would want to see who they wanted for these firsts and what teams wanted them.
Mac for a 1rst, OK bye bye.
Grabo for only a 1rst is an insult.
Schenn for a first, no thanks, unless it a horrid team that wanted him.
Frans for a first, no thanks. Unless the team is on the weak side.
Unfortunately, 1st rounders may take 2-4 years to develop, with no guarantees. I doubt any first rounder we draft will immediately step into the NHL.
I believe our prospect pool is great enough even without the Top 10 Pick. With the addition of Carter Ashton during the trade deadline, it has strengthened our prospect pool. Now, i'm not saying we should trade away our 1st rounder come draft time, but i believe it's not the best decision, because, it's not even much of a decision. We're keeping what is already ours.
