OMG, seriously. We've hit our saturation point, I think. I've gone from just sort of lol'ing about it to actually quoting this commercial in real life situations.
P.S. You guys should go to that site... it's an addicting online hockey game.
I will check that out, actually. Don't mean to hate on your link, so don't take it that way.
It's just that it's starting to get embarrassing for me to go out with friends to watch a game and cackle maniacally whenever Babe Winkelman shows up on TV.
Those fishing Ontario commercials raise some questions. First, who pays for the commercials? The ONLY benefit I can think of from the commercials is to promote tourism around Ontario fishing locations. It would seem unlikely that these commercials are sponsored by bait and tackle convenience stores throughout Ontario. So who pays for the commercials?
Also, a good fisherman never advertises his spots. If fishing in Ontario is so amazing and viewers of these commercials take that to heart then the result would be an excess of fisherman in Ontario. This decreases the population of fish while not seeming to benefit anyone in Ontario (aside from bait/tackle shots) in any significant way.
The commercials just don't make sense to me. The fact that they seem to be becoming more prevalent is even more puzzling.
I've still only happened to see the commercial a few times on TV (due to streams not having commercials or being the opposing team), havn't seen it pop up on HF, and have not seen it anywhere else.
I must be fighting to resist the urge to fish in Ontario.
It is my theory that the commercials are aimed towards getting Tim Brent's attention, as he is an avid fisherman and hunter. The man in the commercial is his biological father who is desperately trying to reconnect with him and due to the restraining order can only advertise on television. In order to disguise himself, he raided Al Borland's closet and grew a beard.

Is it just me, or are Tim Brent's hunting/fishing ads on the rise? I think I heard about 20 of them today alone.
He and Babe are destined for some sort of steel cage death match when it comes to Raleigh commercial air time.
Let me assure you I'm not joking when I say that this guy was in my dream. Maybe it's that cheesesteak I ate before bed.
Or maybe the ads have subliminal messages embedded in them! It's probably in that loon call - "You will dream about fishing in Ontario and/or Babe Winkelman. You want to come to Ontario and fish, my friend." I think we all need to start wearing tin foil helmets to block out the subliminal messages and the mind control rays shooting out of Babe's eyes.
As for who's sponsoring it, looks like the Ontario provincial government is. I guess they're getting hard up for tourists?
Just curious. How many of you have ever caught a "trophy" northern pike? They are a fun fish to catch as they put up quite a fight, but they are a slimy fish with some nasty teeth. If you don't have a wire leader on your line, they'll chop right through you line. Also, too boney to really enjoy eating.
Kind of eerie swimming in lakes up north that have 3-4+ foot slimy fish with sharp teeth down in the depths.
I wouldn't put one on my wall from what I've seen, that's for sure.
When I lived up north, the biggest one I ever caught was 31", but a buddy of mine caught one that was just under 4 ft. long. He said it took him almost 2 hours to finally reel it in. Not sure what he did with it as it was caught during a fishing derby and was on display in a huge tank for a while. My guess is they released it, but not sure.

Undoubtedly their tourist bureau. The website is basically a vacation planner that feeds customers to Ontario lodges, local tourist offices and so forth. Safe bet that "attract tourist dollars" is on some government agency's agenda this year.
Have y'all looked at the package costs on that site? I don't know much about fishing beyond "fish are *******s who won't let me catch them", but are those actually good prices for fishing getaways?
