Malone is the odd man out in a lot of armchair GM trades (including mine) because his large contract and the fact that many teams covet big guys who can score. It has more to do with who would logically be traded, not who I want to see traded (Malone is one of my favorite players).

Make no mistake though, If Lou is coming to Tampa, Yzerman will want to free up some cap space and Stammer, Vinny, and Marty aint going anywhere...

I said SFY wouldn't do a deal centered around Malone or Purcell for Luongo, and right on cue the VAN fans then ask if a trade centered around them would work.

VAN is not in a spot to be negotiating a good return for a 33 year old goalie with a 10 year old contract that still has 49mil left! Get it through your heads!

You should be happy enough to get that 5.3 mil in cap space without a cap dump.

Do you see Yzerman overpaying for Luongo with sending Malone (if he were to waive NTC) to VAN though?

I would think Malone would bring back a decent return if he were to be traded. If he were to be moved, which I hope doesn't happen, I would think he would be moved somewhere else for an asset that ISN'T Luongo.

Sorry for double post.

It's VERY obvious to me at least that the salary going back the other way is Ohlund.

Malone isn't going anywhere nor would I want him too.

If its Luongo it will be Ohlund+2nd at most.

If its Schneider I would say detroit first+two 2nds or Detroit 1st+ decent prospect and a 2nd.

And for Vancouver fans who say we dont need draft picks we need players blah blah, those picks could easily be then traded to another team to acquire player talent. Teams that would not trade for Schneider for one reason or another to begin with. Either before the draft, or at the trade deadline to bolster the roster.

@BoltProspects posed the question that Ohlund "Ohlund's done. Can a trade be made with a player that can't pass a physical? Cap penalty for career-ending injury?"

Don't know if this has been broached or not, Continue.

We aren't trying to dump Malone. Yzerman has never said that he wanted to dump anybody. SFY keeps that stuff locked down. You could say the Malone rumors started out of Toronto when he was "close" to being traded for Kaberle a little while back and since has been put in a lot of trade proposals on hf.

We traded Kolzig and Heward to the Leafs in 08-09 and they were both injured for the season.

Lombardi was traded to the Leafs last summer with a severe injury.

Realistically no, I don't see Yzerman trading Malone for Luongo. I think Lou winds up somewhere else and we keep Malone.

What I am saying is if Luongo winds up in Tampa we will have a lot of money tied up in very few players. I do think if that's the case Malone could return Luongo+ and still keep us relatively cap flexable.

Trading Ohlund honestly doesn't save us any cap space. He'll either retire or be put on LTIR. Keep in mind we'll need to pick up at least one more top 4 Dman, which is likely to cost about as much as Ohlund, if not more.

Remember the Kings' Ryan Smyth for Edmonton's Gilbert Brulé + 4th round pick trade a while back? Although Brulé was injured the deal would've been legal. But LA planned on buying him out which is not allowed. So yeah, I believe we are allowed to trade Ohlund - even if his career is in fact already over.

Edit - from Wiki:
Quote:
On June 24, 2011, it was reported that Brulé had been traded along with a fourth-round draft pick to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for forward Ryan Smyth.[55] Due to health concerns, the deal never materialized as Brulé had not yet been cleared to play following his concussion (under league rules, an injured player can be traded but cannot be bought out, which is what the Kings had planned on doing).

the best part of this and the Stamkos situation over the summer is realizing how professional Yzerman and the rest of the Lightning staff are. Compared to the cowboys we get the enjoyment of actually speculating and only being given truth. This regime only reports news when there is some, which is so refreshing.

Just trade for Bernier and lets move on

Luongo seems like the kind of guy that is bad to have in your locker room. He may be talented, but so is Terrell Owens, and he plays arena football

God, reading some of these articles makes my head hurt.

"Getting Hedman is a really good possibility in return"
"You'd have to imagine Hedman is going the other way"

You've got to be joking here.

Luongo, the former captain of Vancouver, is now a locker room cancer?

Hold on a second there, his contract may be bad, but I don't get that vibe from him at all.

How could you not love that face?!

I disagree. He was a former captain, and I do not at all get that vibe from Luongo. All he wants is his tires pumped.

Wait...what? Where do you get that idea? Owens routinely threw other teammates under the bus, unless I'm mistaken Luongo has never done anything of the sort. That comparison is way off.
