I posted this in the Oilers trade talk thread and it seemed pretty split among whether or not we'd do it.
Hypothetically, if we ended up with 1st overall:
To LAK: 1st overall, Gagner
To EDM: Kopitar, Voynov
Rumours of Sutter and Kopitar not meshing well, as well as Carter and Richards being a fine 1-2 punch down the middle got me thinking about this. LA has always coveted an impact winger and Yakupov will surely be that. As well, they'd have additional cap room if they wanted to get in on the Suter sweepstakes. A guess at what both teams top 6 would look like:

Even if the pick was guaranteed I'd pass as a Kings fan. Besides, I doubt anyone of the current Kings management regime is around next year so Sutter being Sutter doesn't bother me.

Thoughts?
Speeds up the oils rebuild and stalls the Kings, very litle incentive from a kings perspective. I'd rather just trade Kopitar for a signed Parise if we're that deperate for a winger.
Kopitar is a main cog on our team, It would be a huge mistake to move him.
Having Kopitar and RNH at center would be pretty awesome but that also means the Oilers would have a TON of money invested in that one position. Not sure you can justify having a 6M+ 2nd line center when your defense, goaltending and bottom 6 are so weak.
As an Oiler fan I'd do it. I like Voynov's game. As for whoever posted Voynov> Gagner, we can agree to disagree.
Hard for Kings to swallow losing Kopitar though even for Yakupov.
Teams just don't trade proven players, locked up for multiple more seasons (4), for a what if. I know it's HF and all, but a GM isn't going to trade what you know can be a 70-80 point center and can be dominant in stretches for a guy who hasn't played a game at the NHL level. Not to mention the Kings had confidence in Voynov which allowed them to move Johnson. Gagner is still going to be at best a 3rd line center on the Kings (because if they move Kopitar they're going Richards Carter 1-2, not Carter on the wing). So it would open up a hole on defensively and fill a hole that isn't really there right now as well.
I don't think the Kings do this, Kopitar is a centerpiece in the Kings' build. Gagner hasn't shown much consistency or finish, and who knows how good the 1st overall pick whether it be Yakupov or Grigorenko will be at the NHL level.

Funny the penguins model seems to be working just fine, and if I'm not mistaken Crosby and Malkin make a tad bit more than RNH and Kopitar would.
If I'm the Oilers I do the deal
If I'm the Kings I ask for the first (overall)and Hemsky.

Pittsburgh is paying 17.4 million for their first two centers, then another 4 million for their third line centre. And they won a cup with that, so two-three awesome centres NEVER hurt. It will be a great addition, like how do u match up against Sid, Geno, Staal?
