I know it's early, really early, but hey when you Buff floors all night your mind wanders.
Let's suppose Crosby comes back and for some injury related reason only plays 60 games next year. When he's healthy he's Sidney Crosby, but Pittsburgh is starting to get worried about his long term health. The Pens then look at their team with Malkin and J.Staal down the middle and decide that for what Crosby is asking for he's not worth it. Better to build around the other two then to throw 10 million at a guy who can't stay healthy. So it's the last week of June 2013 and Staal is signed, Crosby is unsigned and fans everywhere are flipping their collective ****...
1. What does your team offer for Crosby's rights
2. What type of contract do you give him.
I was thinking Drew Stafford and a Conditional 1st (Conditional on Crosby signing)
5 years 50 million dollars with a joint option for another 5 years 50 million dollars.
Expensive perhaps, but for a city like Buffalo, the idea of having a player like Crosby is worth the risk.
I am thinking that if Crosby were to decide to hit UFA, which I doubt, a team would be stupid to trade for his rights. If he is not staying in Pittsburgh he is going to see all his options before signing anywhere.
In a hypothetical situation like this, I think the Penguins would take four first rounders as RFA compensation before taking Stafford and a conditional first.
his value is still HIGH.... and it will take alot to get him...
I disagree. His value will go back to being high , after he returns from his injury, gets back on the ice and shows the concussion issues are behind him.
Right now,Crosby and his trade value are a big question mark. What team would give up a huge return at this point?
If there are any questions about his health, the Pens will still sign him to the same contract in case he ever becomes healthy again, and let him sit on LTIR.

ya the pens let Crosby's rights go for Drew Stafford and the 23rd pick in the draft hahaha

Someone said it already possibly but he'll have served his 8th year in the league so I believe that makes him a UFA.

So... if Crosby signs with you, you just traded Stafford and a 1st for Sidney freakin' Crosby... Deal of the century I'd say.

The current CBA runs through Sept.
Under the current CBA, you are allowed one year before a contract expires to sign a new deal.
There is no way Shero doesn't have a deal done with Crosby by the end of this Summer.
So essentially this kind of makes your entire thread a moot point. Maybe in some other dimension where Shero is a meth head this could happen...
I don't understand why everyone is so certain Crosby will resign a contract with the Pens. He's the best player in the game, pretty much accomplished everything he could during his time with the Pens... Maybe he will want to accept the challenge to lead another team to a SC championship.

Maybe he wants to play his entire career in one city and have a statue next to Mario's?
