C'mon Dennis, stop the bleeding. You're an All Star don't forget!
As with most fan bases, when it comes to trading our team's pending UFAs at or near the TDL, we tend to over value the player in what we should get for him. I believe that this was the case with Wideman. Green's injury made Wideman appear to be more valuable than he actually was. We looked at the goals he was scoring as well as his selection to the All Star team and felt that he was definitely worth a first rounder in return. Other teams' GM's know about his warts.
When the matter with Zidlicky (who still has another year remaining on his 4 million dollar a season contract) willing to waive his NTC for NJ first surfaced that's when GMGM should have approached the Devils about Wideman. I would have been satisfied with the Caps making that identical trade with the Devils and even throw in Joel Ward to sweeten our end of the pot. Ahhh!!!
I still think Wideman could have fetched a 1st+ on this market. He's still substantially better than Zidlicky or Oduya. Wideman has his uses, and there were plenty of teams shopping. I just don't think McPhee really wanted to trade Wideman, especially if he wasn't getting roster players back.
Hopefully he can get something for his rights at the draft, but I doubt it. Despite being a similar player to Ehrhoff, he's not as well regarded.

I'm pretty sure Wideman is the textbook example of "Sell high". To think he had less value than Zidlicky or even comparable is just silly.
Jesus Christ Ovechkin enters the zone and theres like 5 Lightning players around him cause MoJo and Brouwer are ****ing right there with him, great work MoJo and Brouwer.
I wonder if anyone's ever tried to coach that 'brainfart' out of Ovechkin. The moment when he mishandles the puck and undergoes a complete system shutdown for a second or two.
