Yeah, that makes it less bat**** crazy, but it's still very unlikely. I'll go with 35.
EDIT: I'd much rather see Clarkson get hot, plus add 2 or 3 ENG, and somehow pass Gaborik. That would make my stomach hurt for days from laughing so hard.

Yea that would be great. Pay the guy $7m + for goal scoring. I don't think it happens. Now that just seems ludicrous to me, even though I know you're being facetious. I don't think Clarkson has another goal-scoring gear... this is it. He's got the RPMs to the red.
As for Kovy, my gut says he gets 37 - if he plays like he has the past 2 games.
The Devils are 19-4-0 in games Kovalchuk has scored goals in this year. Not including shootouts.
Those stats aren't particularly illuminating, in my opinion. Too much noise, and I don't think a goal by Kovalchuk inherently makes the team more likely to win than a goal by someone else.
35 goals this season is going to be impressive by any player. Stamkos may be the only player to even 50 this season
Perhaps you're right. I didn't see what the rest of the league is doing.
Stamkos gets 55
Malkin gets 45-50
Kessel gets 39 - just cause
Perry gets 40+ (he's playing well as of late)
Hartnell gets 35-40
Gaborik has a good shot at getting 40
I'm too tired to do the rest. I should probably tailor my expectations for Kovalchuk.

This will be Clarkson's highest goal output in the NHL, even if he plays another decade. In fact, I'd trade Clarkson in the offseason were I Lou.
There were enough GMs in this league that already had a raging boner for Clarkson, even before this season as he scored what may turn out to be 30 goals. Someone would drastically overpay. This is a Maple Leafs/Devils trade wanting to happen.

It is a nifty stat, though.
all he does is score meaningless goals brah - game was already won by the time he gets a goal...

For the right overpayment, I'd definitely trade him.
He's still probably going to be a ~20 goal player in the future, though, and that has significant value.
Anything Alexander Ovechkin or Sidney Crosby does is more important than curing cancer.
Yup all I see are headlines about these guys, something about Chiarelli fishing, and Marty breaking his stick last night, a bunch of articles of POS Toronto who suck, and Stamkos who's scoring 50 goals, but the article won't mention that his team is a piece of garbage suck team. Oh and something about how Philly fans are warming up to JYZ finally.

If you run that stat for most players with > 20 goals, I'll bet you generally see a similar positive result. Probably not as solid at 19 - 4, but the point is, since you're starting the conversation at "scoring a goal", you're already starting the data in a winning direction.

this would def be the right time to do it. wonder what he could hornswaggle someone for.

I'd take Toronto's 2012 first round pick for Clarkson.
It will likely be a top-10 pick in what's expected to be a decent draft. With any luck, David Clarkson could wind up being this Devils' generation's Tom Kurvers.

Yup. You're automatically discounting any games where the team got shut out, and you're more likely to look at games where multiple goals were scored by the Devils (or whatever other team) because it's more likely Kovalchuk (or the other player) scored in a game that the Devils scored 5 in than they scored 1 in.

I don't think it will happen, but the fact that he is even close to doing it is hilarious. I am already enjoying the fact that Clarkson is keeping pace with Parise.

I know about "buy low, sell high" and all that, but Clarkson is a pretty rare commodity. He can score and fight. As pure enforcers get phased out, you need the Clarkson type of player. They are even more rare in the league than pure goal scorers. I don't mean to say that they are that valuable, but they are a rare asset, and should generally be held onto, unless the return is completely exorbitant.
BG: Although that would be good value for Clarkson, (a potential top 10 pick). I don't see Lou trading Clarkson for anything but an immediate upgrade at RW or D.
