After reading the whole paragraph, (j) and (l) particularly, we know our full taxi squad but can send them down and recall them. Should be Wellwood, Zolnierczyk, Gustafsson and Manning.
Hmmm...
I see where it says they can be loaned back under (j). I'm not sure I'm seeing anything that makes me think they can be recalled and sent down as needed. That would be good though.
FWIW, the six defensemen who played vs. Detroit are all practicing today. So, there appears to be no injuries as it relates to the recall of Brandon Manning.

Then why call him up? I mean, the last couple games, I didn't even think Lilja was that terrible.

Perhaps Lavy is thinking of using Gustafsson as a forward tonight to fill in for one of Jagr/Voracek (in a fourth line role) and Manning will take his spot on the third defensive pairing? Just a thought.
That hasn't been determined, at least not publicly.

They liked his game going back to before he was injured in camp. Could be indicative of a few things but nothing has been specified yet.
Adding to that, Coburn has been banged up a bit since being boarded by Staal (missed the game-day skate at Calgary, supposedly neck-related) and Kubina took the stick to the eye area at Washington (seven stitches). Not sure if Manning is insurance for those reasons.

You're right, it only says that they can be reassigned to the minor league club.
It's probably precautionary with all the injuries we currently have on the club. Maybe one of the defenseman were feeling a bit iffy before the morning skate.
he can't be any worse than erik "skate with the puck directly into a forechecker at my own bluline" or "take a slap shot right into an opposing players shin pads, standing 4 feet away from me" gustafsson.

If I were to criticize Gus, it wouldn't be for his play with the puck. It'd be for his lack of size and strength along the boards and ability to out muscle, well, anyone.

So yea these arent even close to being his problem lol. Looking at the wrong guy?
So all 6 defenseman practiced, none of them are declared out yet, yet Carchidi says MANNING is the emergency recall.
Per the CBA you must have less than 6 defenseman to have an emergency callup. So you can have an emergency callup now if you MIGHT have less than 6 defenseman? I don't see how that is allowed unless someone is declared out beforehand.
Also, can we have Chris work on some of our prospect pages? No talent analysis for Manning
Believe it or not, I'm not exactly in control of all that. It'd be nice if writers were just given webpages to edit by themselves. It's a lot more detailed to get that stuff edited than just write articles.
But yeah, barring that, Manning:
Basically take Mike Richards and turn him into a defenseman. That's what Manning was for Chilliwack in his last two years there. Not gigantic, but big enough. Physical, and dominating both defensively and offensively.
As some of you remember he was hurt to start off and missed camp because of it. He kind of vanished but then reappeared. It was slow going early on when he was trying to get his bearings, but he's become a really good player for Adirondack since. There's still some growing to be done, but I don't know how quickly it's going to come.
Unfortunately, it's hard to get a read on him as far as just what will translate to the NHL for him. Normally guys like him without extreme offensive instincts become the shutdown guys at the NHL level, but he doesn't really have the size to be that guy.
It could go the other way though. Since he's such a solid utility guy as a two-way defenseman, if he reaches his potential he could be very good at the NHL level.
Ya, watched him a few times during this season. Has made some tremendous progress as the season has went on. Went from barely playing to PP time and some huge minutes. I think people will like him since, he not only hits hard, but has a booming shot from the point. He is a hybrid, for he doesnt having amazing offense or defense but solid in both areas. I do think he has the most potential in the end (if we ever reaches it) out of all our prospect d-men.

Doesn't sound too crazy to me. Gus certainly has the wheels, defense (of course), and passing skills to make a nice 4th line winger.
However, with all the recent incidents (Coburn: back, Kubina: stiches to the face,...) beside what happened to Kimmo and Mesz it may be just for precautionary reasons. Why not give him (Manning) an opportunity to practice with the big boys, learn the system now, just in case....

Both the Flyers and Phantoms have the same system I believe Homer said at one point in the year. He said it makes it easier for the call ups to fit right into their game
