Probably didn't find the offers he was looking for. Then signed with the Caps for a run to boost his value the following summer.

Armstrong has negative value.

MacArthur is worth no more than a second rounder + prospect.

How about we get Miikka Kiprusoff out of Calgary if they decide to blow it up? 35 years old, 2 years left on the contract, steps into a Curtis Joseph/Ed Belfour type veteran role with us.

Or what about Kari Lehtonen out of Dallas? Stars have money problems and he's a UFA after next year...

Calgary would demand like 2 1st round picks after getting fleeced in the Phaneuf deal.

He has a high cap hit, the most I'd offer is MacArthur + Lombardi + Connolly (to replace Jokinen). If Feaster says yes to that he should be fired on the spot.

Might be possible after Iginla is moved. Until then not a chance.

Oh and also Feaster thinks his team is still a playoff contender. I don't expect him to hold a fire sale any time soon.

Burke was offered a first round pick for MacArthur at the deadline.

If only the Leafs were further out of playoff contention I'm sure he would've shipped him out. Leafs were in a tough spot on TDD.

Someone mentioned Kiprusoff, yes please! Toronto shouldn't be shipping out promising assets for a young goalie though, we need a veteran.

I'm one of the fans that believes a good goalie vaults the Maple Leafs into playoff contention 100%. Offensively, we're fine (a 3rd line that could either A) shut-down, or B) score would be nice but I guess you can't have everything you wish for). Defensive gaffes are overblown--sure we may not be performing with the top 1/3 of the league defensively but we're not as bad as we look on paper if our goalies aren't letting in softies on a game-to-game basis. A top-line center and a true #1 d-man are both treats right now, they'll either develop or sign with us once we start winning. Goaltending is our biggest issue imo.

Yeah, we basically need a veteran to stabilize the back end while the team matures up front. Can't have the histrionics of a kid who will wet his pants when the going gets tough. Gustavsson looked so scared/excited last night, for example.

signed Harding. probably would have to fork over some good $ though.

Dan Ellis can likely be signed for cheap.

Lol @ this thread. You sign a vet goalie who wont eat up cap room and you start Reimer. Thats how it should be.

Who's gonna trade a number in the prime of his career? Nobody. Said number #1 is either all potential or a veteran who's beginning to decline

I would give up Schenn + for Schneider in a heartbeat. The fact that people still think Schenn is good is laughable, the guy is downright horrible. I have seen no progression in him from his rookie season at all, might as well trade him while other teams still think he has potential. As a pure hitter he's not bad, but he has terrible footspeed and has the puckhandling skills of a 4 year old. If we can deal him + whatever for Schneider, I would do it in a heartbeat. Run with Reims and Schneids next year.

Wow!! You just summed up my EXACT stance on everything and my order of importance.

You wannamake this team a playoff team. Sign a vet goalie.

You wanna make this team a serious playoff team. Sign a goalie + bottom 6 grit

You wanna make this team a contender. Sign a goalie + bottom 6 grit + top 1c + Top D

This next year I'll be happy with goalie + bottom 6 grit. Cause the other ones will be hard to obatin and may as well wait until a good FA comes available or one of our prospects breaks out!

Sign Raycroft

On a bit more serious note, maybe Chris Mason? Isn't he also a UFA next year - Mason - Reimer.

What if Reimer is damaged goods? Does that throw a wrench in your post?

IMHO I think he is. Therefore you trade for the best "could be" goalie, sign a back up like Clemmonson and draft a goalie. I have a hunch that our AHL goalies aren't good enough either.

I'd go Chris Mason.

He's always a reasonable contract and is a professional.

Give him and Reimer a 50/50 split, then take a run at Jimmy Howard if he's not re-signed by Detroit prior to his UFA date.
