I'm going to preface this with a warning. ANY out of line comments will have infractions issued and will be removed from the discussion.

Good man. I'm glad to see support for this cause.

Not to take this thread into any serious discussion, but locker rooms can be a hostile environment. I had many teammates in college "joke" with me and others about being gay. I took it all in stride because they knew I wasn't. Point being, we need to rid ourselves of stupid stereotypes and fear. I am glad projects like this exist.

Agreed. It's a pretty amazing project, and the support it's gaining is even more so.

Not going to lie - pretty cool stuff here. This was brought up in the NBA like 2 years ago and people being scared to play due to some of the locker room talk. I'm glad the NHL is doing this.

Really cool stuff. Classy.

Me, too. And maybe hockey is the best choice as far as being the first sport to promote equality and respect for all athletes regardless of their sexual orientation. Hockey is a tough, physical sport and players are often viewed as being the 'toughest' of professional athletes ... which is kind of the antithesis of most gay stereotypes.

I've gained a lot of respect for the Burke family. For Brendan to come out publicly took a lot of courage. For his father and brother to support him publicly as well is, to me, the definition of leading by example. And to spearhead this project after his death is just amazing to me.

Saw Patrick Burke on Twitter say that Brooks was the first player to volunteer/pledge support that wasn't on the advisory board which lead to a lot of other committments from other players to the cause. Glad he's become a big part of the campaign.

Yeah ... I think it's because he doesn't have a prominent/thick limbal ring ... his eye color is light enough that it kind of fades into the white part of his eye so his pupils really stand out ...

Good very good. Stereotypes, racism, etc. Just needs to end. There's absolutely no reason for it and there should be ZERO tolerance for it. Everyone is beautiful and everyone is the same.

I have confirmation of the second part, but not the first.
A great man once said: "you are not a beautiful and unique snowflake".

As a member of the middle children of history, I concur that all of our parents lied to us when they told us we are special. And to be honest, I'm glad. Life is hard enough; I don't want the pressure of being special.

I prefer to be an Ordinary Joe. Cuz there are only two Joes who aren't ordinary, and you know their names.

I think Brooks did a good job with it. But, does anyone else think they could do a better job wit the scripts? Am I lost here?

For as much as a ****** Sean Avery is he deserves some props for fighting for LGBT rights as well.

But my God, Brooks, stop staring into my soul.

Legend has it one that one Orpik eye has the power to abolish homophobia, and the other will end racism.

How many teams have had someone involved in the campagin so far? they're doing pretty well. Wish other sports would follow suit? We've had keep racism out of football (soccer) over here but I don't think they made a big enough deal out it and there has been nothing about supporting LGBT athletes. I imagine there is more than one gay NHLer out there so if they could all come out at the same time maybe that would make things easier.
