I think the most ideal situation for the Devils would be to end up in 4th and play the Penguins at 5th, The flyers in 7th playing boston, and ottawa in 8th playing the Rangers.

Once the playoffs begin, anything can happen.

Ex. 2006 Western Conference Quarter Finals

(8) Edmonton defeats (1) Detroit
(7) Colorado defeats (2) Dallas
(6) Anaheim defeats (3) Calgary
(5) San Jose defeats (4) Nashville

I'd say be careful what you wish for, no matter who takes the SE.

Like some of said, it's not really meant as an insult.

Would you rather play the Bruins, Rangers, Penguins, Flyers, Devils or one of Winnipeg/Florida/Washington? It might not be an easy choice, but it is one most teams would make... if they had a choice.

Even if some over confident fan thinks your team is a pushover, guaranteed the team they cheer for doesn't feel the same way.

The Jets were the first team to shutout the Sens all year, the Panthers had a nice gameplan the other day to shutdown Karlsson/Spezza and the Capitals won 3 of 4 this year.

Pick your poison.

Jets won't make the payoffs. To many road games in the rest of the regular season.

Best case scenario for the flyers IMO

Nyr vs Ottawa
Boston vs penguins
Florida vs flyers
Njd vs Pitt

Likely scenario

Nyr vs winnipeg
Boston vs Ottawa
Wash vs njd
Pitt vs phi

They're 8 points up on the closest team in 8th right now. That's a lot to make up even with games in hand, especially when Ottawa doesn't seem to be showing signs of a team on the verge of a collapse.

They are 3 games up on the panthers, 2 on Washington and 1 up on Winnepeg. All it would take is one of those teams getting hot going down the stretch and Ottawa going on a losing streak.

Not sure how the Penguins can be in two places at once. Actually not a bad scenario either for the Devils facing Caps in the 1st round. While victory is not assured, we don't have as many problems against them as other teams.

Problem is round two we'll be facing one of Boston or Penguins/Flyers, on their home ice, which is never good. I rather have 4th where we can have home ice.

The order of pretty much set as it's really hard to make moves this time of year. Except for 3rd or 8th of course, which means a date with the Rangers or the Devils. Good luck.

I don't see the point in fearing the Jets at home over the Caps, Rangers, or Pens at home...those three have equal or better home records.

Any team is beatable in a 7 game series.
The best asset in the playoffs is adaptability.

It was only 2 seasons ago that the ECF came down to 7th & 8th seeds. I wouldn't go doubting any of the teams that make it in this year.

If Winnipeg does end up third I don't think it will be huge as advantage as some people are making it out to be. It will be a great advantage but I think PHI or NJD could steal a game or two at Winnipeg.

One of NJD and PHI are probably going to face 3rd seed and both have very good road records.

NJD- 20-12-2
PHI- 21-11-2

But I don't think any matchup in the playoffs is easy the intensity is turned up a notch or two.

It's early but it already looks like it'll be another Pens/Flyers 4/5 series

i know as a devils fan i'd much rather play the caps or tampa than panthers or jets. i feel like the first two are much better matchups for us than the back two.

As long as the Flyers dont get the Rangers in round 1 (which is very unlikely but anything can happen), I dont care who they play.

The same is also true in the west, I know I'd much rather face the Stars than STL/DET.
