Wow. Pretty ridiculous reply. Way to troll me Brooks. So you're actually accusing me of lovin' on Duper because of a 2-goal game, even after I outright stated that I meant to start this thread a few days ago (after that game where Duper had like 9 shots on net for 0 goals)?
I didn't list the 5 intangibles he was missing to be right beside Mario, so don't get all sensitive about it.
Put on your imagination cap, buddy... and... picture Duper poppin' in 15 of those once-a-game-absolutely-glorious wide open nets that he invariably misses.
That makes him a near 40 goal scorer. My point was, a 40 goal scorer that does all that Duper does, gets $6M/year.
Not trolling anything. If you honestly think he gets 15 100% can't miss chances a year and blows them then there's no point in arguing. More like it happens 3-4 times a year (and some aren't even wide open nets to boot) and everyone has to bring it up.
EDIT: Wow not 15 in a season, one per game. Yeah I don't think so.
Kunitz is used on the NHL's top line & one of the best power plays. Dupuis doesn't have the hands to perform these roles. Plus, Kunitz is used in a different way than Dupuis. Basically, he isn't asked to score, just create havoc. However, when he needs to, he can put the puck in the net. I'll grant you, Dupuis is having a good season, but there is no way he is a better hockey player than Kunitz....
I've come to the conclusion (you guys likely already have), that if you guys would have never gotten Marian Hossa in the Marian Hossa trade, you still win on Pascal Dupuis alone.

This.
Erik Christensen is somewhere in Minnesota. Colby Armstrong is a healthy scratch in Toronto and Esposito has yet to sniff the NHL.
I actually didn't start this thread as a "Dupuis Appreciation" thing... it was more about what he'd be worth if he could pot 2 out of 5 of those golden opportunities he wiffs on.
Dupuis is still going to send his share of slapshots and wristers over the net (his flip-shots and back-handers around the net are much better), but hopefully Duper's play this year and of late, will put the ridiculous "TK is just as good" arguments to rest.
If we had to trade one down the line, you don't trade the guy who is: bigger and more physical, faster, better defensively and on PK, gives 100% just like the other guy, and who has modestly better offensive skills, which most years are going to translate into more points. Whether it's 8 more points or 15 more is hard to predict from year to year but the bottom like is Dupuis is the better player... and (even though I LIKE HIM as a 3rd line type) Kennedy positively IS an average player, who goes through some periods where he's more active and scores a few more points.
The acid test is, if Kennedy was gone this team wouldn't skip a beat. If we lost Dupuis for a season, our team would definitely suffer some from it. It's hard to replace a guy like Dupuis at his salary level.
I meant to do this a few days ago, before his 2 goal game. This guy does everything but finish his opportunities... he's fast, forechecks, backchecks, hits, strong on the puck, heavy on the boards, kills penalties, he's in the right places... yadda yadda. 110% EVERY shift.
If he could pot 2 out of every 5 "GLORIOUS" opportunities that he flubs... he'd be a $6M/year player.
I've come to the conclusion (you guys likely already have), that if you guys would have never gotten Marian Hossa in the Marian Hossa trade, you still win on Pascal Dupuis alone.
I'm not sure that's funnier, the superficial absurdity of saying Dupuis > Armstrong, Christensen, Esposito, 1st OR the accuracy of the statement.
if you want a player with goal scoring potential for the price of Dupuis, you're going to get a player like erik christensen. No one wants that. Gimme the hard working, versatile, and persistant guy with no hands any day of the week.
Don't look now but Dupuis is going to have a 20-goal, 50-point season.

IMO, if we only would have gotten Hossa it still would have been worth it. He helped us get to the SCF. That experience was invaluable to winning the Cup the next season.
That said, Colby Armstrong is still a nice player but overpaid, Christensen wouldn't crack this roster, and Esposito is MIA.
