There are a few things that have me concerned:
1. refusal to stand up on either blueline - it's too predictable on both sides of the ice, but more in the defensive zone. The team seems to be content with curling up into a ball and giving up the zone entry too easily which is entirely on the coaching. On the attack it's more that it's too predictable, and it looks like the leash on the defense is too tight. This sounds like a coaching issue as well, because they're trying to limit mistakes, but perhaps it's to a fault and keeping our offense stagnant with fewer second chances.
2. Power play - even when it was good it sure didn't look like it. I'd like to see the numbers of what our PP% is against playoff teams. There's too many point shots without a setup from down low that end up out of the zone and not enough set plays. Point shots are effective, but you have to sell the play down low first to open up the time and space. It also seems like other teams have us figured out. It's painfully obvious on the 5-on-3 or 4-on-3.
3. Lack of point pressure in the defensive zone - the point is left way too open since the forwards collapse a bit too much to cover for Niemi's rebounds. This leads to extended cycles in the zone and tons of set-up chances at the point.
A lot, if not all, of this is straight out of the coaching's system.
funny...that thread/poll of mine back in december got ripped apart......
anyways, absolutely fire t-mac....if he makes it to next season doug wilson can take a hike with him
I called the McGinn deadline deal "Moenskins bad" in the heat of the moment... but even still... Wilson supplied the Sharks staff with three very capable NHL players at the deadline. You might be able to blame Wilson if the Sharks tank after the next few years, but not right now.
As for the coaching staff... I've just never seen a group of adults rely so heavily on hunches and intangibles, rather than plain evidence. Imagine a scientist performing an experiment and tossing out the results if they didn't meet the hypothesis. absurd.
A guy like Tippett plays to the teams strengths. McLellan demands they play to their weakness and hopes they improve in the pro-cess. hopes.
hire JR. have Nolan and Ricci assist him. we need these kinda players instead of the sissies we have now...
JR I honestly would prefer behind a desk with a mic, hes more amusing that way
if I had to pick someone though, I'd have to say Ricci. Hes been in the Sharks system longer in recent years and would know more about the smaller details than Nolan.
While I love Nolan, I kind of feel the guy wants to PLAY more than coach, so I don't see him filling out that role
Offseason: Havi (HC), one guy of his choosing (AC) Grier (AC)
And yes, part of the problem right now is coaching: the system sucks and more importantly, TMac utterly fails in fielding the best lineup possible. He inexplicably plays White over Vandy on the blueline and benches TJ. Just fix those two things (White to the press box, Vandy to the blueline, and TJ to second line and Wingels to fourth line) and this team will probably be in good shape. But TMac won't do it, so he should go.

Yep - IMO quite a few other coaches in this league could have taken the Sharks of the last few years to the SCF. Todd's success has been inflated by the pure talent of the team he's "coaching."

Ted Nolan is unavailable, he was named the head coach of Team Latvia and is preforming that job full time.
